The Take

To cap off four games on Thursday, one of word basketball's oldest and greatest rivalries is the Game of the Week as CSKA Moscow visits Real Madrid for what is their earliest meeting this century. It is also the first since their Final Four clash in last spring's third-place game, won by CSKA, which dominates the series since 2000 by 5-14, including six wins in Madrid. All eyes will be on Sergio Rodriguez, the new CSKA point guard who was 2014 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague MVP and 2015 champion with Madrid, in his first game since then facing his old team. He was CSKA's top scorer in a home win last week. Rodriguez match up against teen marvel Luka Doncic, who got off to a hot start as Madrid won away last week. The firepower never stops on either side, with Gustavo Ayon, Anthony Randolph and Felipe Reyes dominating inside for Madrid, but having to deal with Kyle Hines, Victor Khryapa and another former Madrid player, Otello Hunter. Nando De Colo and Will Clyburn will drive on the CSKA perimeter, where Fabien Causuer and Facundo Campazzo bring a new look for Madrid. Both of these teams are used to and expect to be unbeaten this early in the season, so count on a fascinating duel as both plan to remain that way.
