THE TAKE

Anwil Wloclawek can grab its third victory in four games with a victory at home over SLUC Nancy in Group D. Head coach Ales Pipan's Anwil dropped to 3-6 by getting pounded at Khimki - snapping a modest two-game winning streak. The Polish side committed just 9 turnovers but shot just 33% for the game while Khimki turned the ball over just 8 times and hit 56% from the floor. Power forward Zelimir Zagorac and shooting guard Gerrod Henderson both scored 12 points while guard Andrzej Pluta chipped in 11 points and power forward Patrick Okafor tallied 10 points. Small forward Alan Daniels was held to just 5 points after averaging 16.3 points in his previous three games. Pipan knows his offense needs to return to hitting shots if it wants to beat Nancy and avenge a 26-point loss in which Anwil made just 40% of its shots while committing 21 turnovers. Nancy is still in the running for the top three and a spot in the elimination round after a home victory over Deutsch Bank Skyliners to improve to 4-5. Nancy was actually out-shot 46%-48%, but the French side out-rebounded Skyliners 44-30, including grabbing 18 offensive rebounds. Small forward Ricardo Greer's 19 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists paced five starters in double figures. Shooting guard Jeff Greer had 15 points and 8 rebounds while power forward Michael Bauer collected 17 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocks. Head coach Jean-Luc Monschau knows his team still has a chance despite the three-game losing streak it had coming into the Skyliners game - against the top three in the group. Now Monschau and Nancy need a victory and an Azovmash loss to grab third place. One of the first fourth-placed spots is also a possibility as well.

Anwil Wloclawek finished its appearance in the 2007-08 ULEB Cup season in style by thrashing Sluc Nancy 85-63 in Poland on Tuesday. Both teams tied for the fourth place in Group D at 4-6, but Nancy finished fourth due to a 26-point home win against Anwil earlier in the regular season. Even with that, Nancy did not manage to advance to the elimination rounds, as it was not one of the five best fourth-ranked teams in the entire competitions. Alan Daniels paced the winners with 25 points on 9-for-12 two-pointers and 10 rebounds. Gerrod Henderson added 16 points, Alex Dunn had 14 while Andrzej Pluta got 11 for Anwil. Cyril Julian had 16 points for Nancy, Jeff Greer added 14 while Zab Dowdell got 11 for the guests. Pluta and Zeljko Zagorac fueled a 13-2 run that allowed Anwil to get a 17-13 edge after 10 minutes. Julian and Jeff Greer made Nancy rally from a 12-point deficit to get within 27-26, but Daniels gave Anwil a 31-26 halftime edge. Back-to-back triples by Jeff Greer and Pape Amagou made it once again a one-point game, 43-42. Dunn helped Anwil to get a 53-44 margin after 30 minutes, while Daniels simply rolled in the fourth quarter to make Anwil seal the outcome long before the final buzzer.

D.J. Harrison and Julian opened the game with consecutive baskets but Henderson, Pluta and Dunn allowed Anwil to get a 7-6 lead. Back-to-back baskets by Zagorac capped a 13-2 run to give the hosts a 13-6 lead. Victor Samnick and Jeff Greer stepped up for Nancy while Julian brought the guests within 15-13. Henderson allowed Anwil to extend its margin to 17-13 at the end of the first quarter. Henderson stayed on fire early in the second period, as he stroke twice from downtown in a 8-0 run that made it a 12-point game, 25-13. Dowdell tried to change things with a quick basket, igniting a 2-13 run in which Julian and Jeff Greer combined for 9 points to bring Nancy as close as 27-26. Patrick Okafor and Daniels had consecutive baskets to give Anwil some fresh air, 31-26, at halftime. Lukasz Koszarek and a three-pointer by Pluta boosted the hosts' lead back to double digits, 36-26, right after the break. Julian tried to change things for Nancy with consecutive baskets while back-to-back three-pointers by Jeff Greer and Amagou got the guests within 43-42. Anwil found a go-to guy in Dunn, who stepped up with 8 consecutive points and then collected a steal that allowed Daniels to give a 53-44 margin after 30 minutes. Jeff Greer tried to ignit a Nancy rally early in the fourth quarter but Anwil stayed on fire. Free throws by Zagorac and another basket by Daniels made it a 17-point game, 65-48, with 6 minutes to go. Everything was said and done, as Anwil kept running its offense through an unstoppable Daniels to seal the outcome long before the final buzzer.

Head Coaches

PIPAN, ALES
Anwil Wloclawek
"I would like to thank my players. Once again they played a great game in front of the home audience. We knew that despite the win by 27 points, we wouldn't go through to the next round. It's a big pity that we didn't win home games with Khimki and Azovmash. I think that if we had won those games, we would have advanced from this group. Now it's time to start thinking about domestic competitions."
MONSCHAU, JEAN-LUC
SLUC Nancy
"We really wanted to win, because only a victory would guarantee us the second round of the ULEB Cup. We played without our two most experienced players, who recently were injured. The rest of the team didn't show experience and maturity to win. We lost a game, and also we lost our chances to play in the next round. Today Anwil was better."

Players

DANIELS, ALAN
Anwil Wloclawek
"We really wanted this win. We came up strong and energetic. It was a tough game, because Nancy is a very good team."
JULIAN, CYRIL
SLUC Nancy
"We are dissapointed how our stint in this competition ended. Now we will have to focus on the French league. Anwil played a great game. With every minute in the second half they increased their lead, and we couldn't stop them."
