THE TAKE

Guildford Heat looks to play spoiler in Group A as it hosts Siauliai. Hed coach Paul James's Heat remained one of three teams without a victory as it lost at home against Alba Berlin to drop to 0-8. The British champs shot just 40% for the game and committed 16 turnovers and it allowed Berlin to hit 49% from the floor. Center Ajou Deng led the way for Guildford with 19 points while shooting guard Daniel Gilbert added 18 points and small forward Tony Dorsey chipped in 10 points and 12 rebounds in a losing effort. James's team has one final chance to give its home fans a ULEB Cup victory to celebrate - so look for Guildford to fight even harder. Siauliai meanwhile is still fighting for the elimination round despite losing last week at KK Bosna to drop to 3-5. Head coach Robertas Kuncaitis's Siauliai out-shot Bosna 50%-48% from the field but turned the ball over 18 times compared to forcing just 6 Bosna turnovers. Power forward Antonio Grant scored 20 points in 21 minutes off the bench while small forward Donatas Zavackas collected 19 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists for the Lithuanian side. And center Saulius Kuzminskas chipped in 10 points and 7 rebounds. With Bosna also at 3-5 and both teams a game behind Alba Berlin with two games to play, a victory on the road against a winless Heat is basically a must for Kuncaitis's team.

Marius Prekevicius - Siauliai Siauliai left things to be decided in the last game of the regular season in Group A as it defeated Guildford Heat on the road by 76-86 on Tuesday night. The win allows Siauliai to improve its record to 4-5 for a three-way tie in third place with Alba Berlin and KK Bosna who lost their games this week. On the other hand, the Heat drop to 0-9 and remain winless this season. The hosts managed to control the tempo of the game until the halftime break, but after that, Siauliai managed to pull away and get a vital win for its aspirations in the ULEB Cup. Donatas Zavackas was again the best scorer for the winners with 20 points, Marius Prekevicius tallied 16, Mantas Ruikis added 15 and Antonio Grant posted 14. For the Heat, Daniel Gilbert had 23 points, Elmer Harrison added 19 and Tony Dorsey had 12.

Donatas Zavackas' three soon made it 8-10 for Siauliai but Guildford Heat reacted. A collective effort in offense by the hosts allowed them to climb to a 20-14 edge after Daniel Gilbert's five straight points. The advantage for the hosts even climbed to double digits after 10 minutes, 25-15. In the second period however, Siauliai started to come back to life. A 0-9 burst capped by Marius Prekevicius put the guests back into the game and after that, another basket by him etied the game again after many minutes, 31-31. It was a last three-point play by Tony Dorsey that left the scoreboard on a tight 36-33 at the break. The first steps of the third quarter saw both teams remaining close to each other but when Siauliai managed to jump ahead by 47-52 they never looked back again. Despite Nerijus Karlikanovas' triple for the hosts, Prekevicius closed the third quarter with 54-60. The last quarter started with a 0-11 run for Siauliai that broke the game open. The Guildford Heat never surrendered, however, and Elmer Harrison tried to keep his team alive, but it was again a futile effort as Siauliai took a valuable win for the last week.
