THE STAKES

Two first-week winners face off in St. Petersburg, where the pressure will be on Spartak to hold its home-court advantage. But both teams need to work for the best possible points differential, which will be crucial in the event of a tie-break at the end of the round. Spartak is one of two teams still undefeated in the Eurocup.

THE TAKE

Spartak St. Petersburg has a very deep roster, with tremendous potential, led by Patrick Beverley, Last 16 week-1 MVP. His duel with Cliff Hammonds will be a key to the game and a must-see for fans. Banvit has a four-game winning-streak, thanks to a team-oriented system that brings out the best of each player individually. Expect a first-rate battle under the boards between Miha Zupan, Loukas Mavrokefalides and Vladimir Dragicevic for Spartak, and Chuck Davis, Lance WIlliams and Kenan Bajramovic for Banvit.

Head Coaches

ZDOVC, JURE
Spartak St. Petersburg
"Congratulations to our players for this victory. It was a tough game. Banvit is a very good team with a good coach and strong, experienced players who have been together for several years. You could see this on the court. This is a very important win for us but we didn't start the game as expected. We had a soft start and Banvit punished us. We had a chance to get a 20-point lead but made a lot of mistakes. We managed to get rebounds when we played good defense and we didn't try hard until the end. Our defense was good but not good enough for this level."
ENE, ORHUN
Banvit BK
"We played very well in the second half, but made some simple mistakes in the end. The game was tight before the last one-and-a-half or two minutes. We are an inexperienced team in the Eurocup that is working to be better. We spent a lot of energy during the game and didn’t have enough strength in the end. I am happy with how we played today, especially in the second half when we played good defense. I expect that we will use our home-court advantage when we play Spartak later on in this round. Our goal is to qualify for the Quarterfinals."

Players

MAVROKEFALIDES, LOUKAS
Spartak St. Petersburg
"Banvit is a very good team and showed it today. The game was tough. Sometimes luck was on our side but sometimes the rival made easy shots. We had seriously prepared for Banvit and its playing style. We could have played better on defense, but the most important thing is that we won by 9 points. Every point will be important until the end of this round. Scoring a lot of points tonight was not the main thing for me. The most important thing is that the team won."
