In an All-German showdown at the Euroleague Basketball Nike International Junior Classification Tournament Belgrade-JCT, Brose Baskets held off a wild rally to edge Alba Berlin 51-54 at Basket City on Saturday. Brose will fight for fifth place against Brose tomorrow at 09:30 CET. Alba will battle for seventh place against Union Olimpija on Sunday also at 09:30 CET. Philipp Daubner led the winners with 14 points. Dino Dizdarevic added 10 for Brose. Mauricio Marin had 14 points for Alba while Robyn Missa added 10.
Daubner had all points in a 0-7 Brose run and a layup by Lucas Wagner soon gave his team a 5-13 margin. Cameron Neubauer and Marin brought Alba within 13-17 after 10 minutes. Tim Leonhardt shined early in the second quarter and got some help from Philipp Winter and Dizdarevic to make Brose get a double-digit lead, 15-26. Free throws by David Schmitt soon made it a 14-point game, 23-37, at halftime. Alba improved its defense after the break and a layup by Missa brought his team a bit closer, 32-42. Robin Jorch scored down low to get Alba within single digits, 39-48, with 7 minutes left. Ismet Akpinar shined in crunch time to make it a one-point game, 51-52, with over a minute to go. Winter and Dizdarevic split free throws and Marin missed from downtown at the buzzer.
