Quotes Head Coaches

ALEXANDRIS, VANGELIS
Aris BSA 2003
"Nothing has changed regarding the way we play. We have said that either we play in our home or away, we play always for the win. Our advantage is that if we win by one point, we move to the next round. But it is a game that requires great attention, because they have their ambitions, they are in good condition and they won against a very good team like Lietuvos Rytas. We have to control the pace, because all Lithuanian teams are groups of rhythm. If we do that, I think we will win and we will qualify."

Players

JAMES, DOMINIC
Aris BSA 2003
"This is an opportunity for the team. We didn’t start very well this season but every day we get better and we prove it on the court. What we should do is to seize the opportunity that it’s given to us. We have great confidence in the team. We believe also our coaches and this is a great opportunity for Aris and the city of Thessaloniki. We have to control the pace of the game. They have good shooters, but we play good defense. If we start from the defense and then to control the rebounds and play good in offense, I believe that everything will be alright."
After wasting an 11-point third quarter lead, Aris BSA 2003 used a 14-2 run in overtime to beat Rupudis 96-86 to secure second place in Eurocup Group C and book a spot in the Last 16. Dominic James collected 22 points and 8 rebounds while Christos Tapoutos had 18 and 11 for Aris, which improved to 4-2 in the group. Ronald Davis added 19 points for the winning side with Sergio Kerusch and Dimitrios Tsaldaris each chipping in 13 points. Rudupis finished in third place with a 3-3 record despite 20 points from Arminas Urbutis. Dainius Salenga had 14 points, Gintaras Kadziulis scored 12 points and Adas Juskevicius and Simas Buterlevicius each chipped in 10 points.

Juskevicius opened the game for Rudupis and Salenga’s three-pointer made it 2-5. Ronald Davis’s triple gave Aris its first lead at 7-5 before back-to-back lay-ups by Edgaras Zelionis pushed Rudupis back ahead 9-12. Aris reclaimed the lead thanks to back-to-back long balls from Dominic James and Tapoutos for a 17-16 advantage and Kerusch’s basket made it 19-16. Aidas Viskontas’s score at the buzzer evened the game 20-20 after one quarter. Viskontas’s triple sent Rudupis ahead once again 21-23 and a nearly three-minute Aris scoreless streak helped the guests open a 23-30 cushion on Kadziulis’s triple. Ronald Davis’s layup stopped the slump and Tsaldaris nailed back-to-back triples and Davis hit two three-balls of his own as Aris jumped ahead 37-30 on a 14-0 run. Juskevicius’s basket stopped the surge before Tapoutos knocked down another triple for a 40-32 lead, which was trimmed to 42-36 at halftime.

Giorgos Bogris started the second half with a basket for a 44-36 Aris lead before Urbutis made two baskets to get Rudupis within 46-44. After Aris re-claimed a six-point lead, Urbutis nailed a three-ball to keep the guests close. James scored five points including a three-point play in a 9-2 run to build a 10-point lead for Aris, 59-49. And the advantage was 63-52 following a Kerusch dunk. But a Urbutis three-point play sparked an 0-8 surge to pull within 63-60 before another Kerusch dunk for the 65-60 scoreline after three quarters. Gediminas Orelik opened the fourth quarter for Rudupis, which would not let Aris pull away by more than five points and got to within 71-69 on Buterlevicius’s three-pointer with three minutes left. Tsaldaris and Kadziulis swapped triples before Salenga knotted the game at 74-74 on a lay-up. Rudupis took the lead on Salenga’s three-pointer for a 76-77 lead. And the gap was 76-78 after a Buterlevicius free throw. Davis sent the game to overtime with a dunk with 5 seconds to play after which Buterlevicius missed a potential game-winner at the buzzer.

A Buterlevicius opened the extra period and Rudupis led 80-81 after a Kadziulis layup. Aris reclaimed the lead on James’s three-point play and Kerusch and Davis also scored to finish up a 9-0 run over three minutes for an 89-81 cushion. Juskevicius snapped the surge before Tsaldaris and James combined for five free throws to establish a 94-83 lead with 44 seconds left.
