THE TAKE

Kraznye Krylia looks to feed off its passionate home fans to notch its first Eurocup victory at the expense of Anwil Wloclawek. The Red Wings' new head coach Stanislav Eremin’s will look to rebound from a 0-2 start in order to make a run at the Last 16. They surely have the talent to do it, as they got 18 points from Brion Rush, 13 from Jermareo Davidson and 12 from Primoz Brezec against Alba last week, while E.J. Bremer produced 11 assists. Stats won’t mean a thing, however, if they can’t control the dynamic and skilled backcourt duo of Chris Thomas and Andrzej PLuta, two guards who know how to get open and drain the long range bomb. For the third straight week, struggling forward Lucasz Majewski will look to get going on offense, though his all-around game can still impact the game in other ways, and the drought will be less burdensome if Nikola Jovanovic keeps producing. Used to an uptempo game, the Red wings are still trying to establish their identity this season, and Brezec could be as good a piece as any to start. The powerfull big man was a force down low in Week 1. Gerald Green has also yet to have the breakout game many expect. Bremer will have to keep them involved if the Red Wings are to contend for the win, but coach Igor Griszczuk has Paul Miller to matchup him up against. The X-factor though, stands in Eremin’s bench: If the hosts can get something out of new signee Qyntel Woods in his second Eurocup game, Anwil could find itself on its heels at the Universal Sports Hall.

Quotes Head Coaches

GRISZCZUK, IGOR
Anwil Wloclawek
"We have to face tomorrow Krasnye Krylia in Russia. That means we should be focused for forty minutes if we want to take a good result. Krasnye, like Anwil, lost the first two games, so in their own arena they’ll do their best to get a win. But we always look at ourselves. I expect my players to come out and play toughly and sensibly."

"Despite having lost games with Alba and Pepsi, in both matches we showed good basketball. Eurocup is a great challenge for us, we want to try to compete at this level and now we have the third opportunity. Maybe this time we’ll beat our opponent. It won’t be easy because Krasnye has quality all through the squad but with a bit of luck we will try to make a tough game for them."
Gerald Green - Krasnye KryliaA 26-3 fourth-quarter run and big scoring night from its stars allowed Kraznye Krylia to beat Anwil Wloclawek 103-80 on Tuesday for its first victory ever in the Eurocup. Krylia raised it record to 1-2 in Group H, while Wloclawek fell to 0-3. The Red Wings capitalized on a 37-24 rebounding edge and 56% three-point shooting on a night in which Gerald Green finally broke through for 21 points, while big man Primoz Brezec added 20 and Qyntel Woods tallied 19. Point guard J.R. Bremer scored 15 and doubled up with 10 assists to help his teammates. Anwil had a chance to win it in the final quarter, down by only 3, but suffered a bad shooting night from beyond the arc and the foul line. Reserve Eric Hicks paced the visitors with 16 points, while Nikola Jovanovic had 14 and Andrzej Pluta added 13.

It was a high-scoring affair from the tipoff as both teams traded baskets in a first quarter with three lead changes. Woods was the one providing the spark off the bench for Kraznye, as the new signee entered the game at the five-minute mark and scored 7 quick points. Jovanovic paced the visitors with some dead-on shooting and parity prevailed, as the biggest lead was 23-17 for the hosts after a triple by Woods. With the towering Brezec imposing his will inside, Green also got into the mix, hitting the glass and finding the bottom of the net on close-range baskets. The one-two punch proved too much for Anwil's defense to handle. With the battle in the trenches tipping heavily towards Krylia, Anwil head coach coach Igor Griszczuk turned to reserve center Hicks, who went a perfect 5 for 5 from the field in the first half, although the hosts were clearly winning the rebounding battle and reached halftime with a 52-42 lead.

The start of the second half featured a backcourt battle between Pluta and Chris Tomas of Kraznye and playmaker Bremer, who was piling up assist after assist. But Brezec was just unstoppable down low, hitting all but one of his first 8 attempts while also going 6 of 7 at the free-throw line. Anwil needed a spark and it came from the forward spot, as Lukasz Majewski got into it and traded triples with Woods for the third quarter's final buckets to cut the difference to 73-63 score. Intent on making a run, the visitors punched first in the final quarter, as layups by Hicks and Darryl Thompson were punctuated by Dardan Berisha's triple to quickly narrow the margin to 73-70. In need of a counter, Krylia went to its money guys of the night, as two Brezec layups sandwiched a pair of triples by Green and Bremer. All of a sudden, the hosts were back in the driver’s seat at 83-74. They never looked back, even as Paul Davis made it as close as 87-77 with a layup, Krylia was able to close out the game with a spectacular 26-3 run in the last 4 minutes as stifling defense forced Anwil into 3 turnovers and 5 missed triples.

Head Coaches

EREMIN, STANISLAV
Krasnye Krylia
"First of I’d like to thank all the fans for their support. We don’t feel great euphoria about the game. We had good offense, but still made some mistakes in defense. That is why we have to keep on working. I’d like to highlight Woods, who stole the ball and scored several points at a time that we needed them."
GRISZCZUK, IGOR
Anwil Wloclawek
"I’d like to congratulate Krasnie Krylia for a good game. We didn’t play our best game unfortunately and committed several turnovers with passes that they used fast breaks."

Players

RUSH, BRION
Krasnye Krylia
"We are really glad that we won today. Our coach changed some strategic points of the offense and that helped us win."
MILLER, PAUL
Anwil Wloclawek
"Today’s loss leaves us minimum chances to get out from the group, but we still will prepare for each game and try to win the rest of the games."
