THE TAKE

Cajasol Sevilla and CEZ Nymburk come into Eurocup Week 5 tied in Eurocup Group G with 2-2 records, but each is hoping to finish Tuesday’s game by celebrating a berth in the Last 16. For either to qualify, they will need Hapoel Jerusalem to also knock out VEF Riga in the group’s other Tuesday fixture. If that happens, Cajasol is through with a win. However for the Czech champion to advance, it must win by at least 17 to make the tiebreaker after losing to Cajasol 77-93 on opening night. The trio of Louis Bullock, Txemi Urtasin and Paul Davis each scored 17 for Cajasol in that contest. Cajasol looks to bounce back after falling 83-82 at Riga last week despite another strong effort from Urtasin. Nymurk comes off a loss at Jerusalem. Nymurk has strengthened its roster inside since opening night and will look to the duo of Ales Chan and Vladimir Stimac to stack up against Davis and Mario Cabanas, while the battle for rebounds will see Tariq Kirksay and Mindaugas Katelynas of Cajasol try to hold off Radek Necas. The visitors will turn to point guard Afik Nissim and swingman Tre Simmons to generate points, though the likes of Bullock, Bojan Popovic and Tomas Satoranski won’t give them up easily. The home-court advantage work well in Cajasol’s favor and if Urtasin or Bullock gets hot, the hosts could celebrate. However Nymburk has fire and experience to pull off the road win in what promises to be an exciting Group G clash.

Quotes Head Coaches

PLAZA, JOAN
Cajasol Sevilla
"It is our first key game this season. If we really want to play in Europe and stay in the competition, we must win this game - not only to see the city of Sevilla in European basketball but for the fact that all we can learn playing a continental competition against some of the best teams in Europe. We have to get everyone involved and I hope that our fans can see how important this game can be. If we are able to win, then we will see if we have options to finish first. Nymburk is a dangerous, vertical team and it is hard to play defense against them because they look for a lot of one-on-one situations. Ales Chan did a lot of damage in our road win. It is a balanced team that knows that its chances are beating us here. They will give their best. We have to be focused and avoiding thinking about our recent wins in the Spanish League. We have maximum respect for a team that has been able to beat Cibona and Partizan this season."

Players

CEZ Basketball Nymburk registered one of the biggest wins in club history and improved to 3-2 in difficult Group G by thrashing Cajasol 68-89 in Seville, Spain on Tuesday. Nymburk ties for first place in Group G with Hapoel Jerusalem. It will advance to the Last 16, regardless of other scores, if it downs VEF Riga at home this week - but could also qualify with a slim loss if a four-way tie takes place. It will be first no matter what if it wins and Cajasol beats Hapoel in Jerusalem. Cajasol dropped to 2-3 and ties with VEF Riga for third place in this group. Cajasol needs to beat Hapoel in Jerusalem to have any chance to make it to the next round. Tre Simmons led the winners with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Afik Nissim added 19 points, Pavel Pumprla had 13 while Radek Necas got 10 for Nymburk. Paul Davis led Cajasol with 13 points while Joan Sastre and Juanjo Triguero each had 10 for the hosts. Nymburk used a 1-14 run to boost its margin to 33-49 at halftime. A corner three-pointer by Simmons made it a 20-point game, 48-68, after 30 minutes, enough for Nymburk to keep full control of the game until the final buzzer.

Davis got Cajasol going with a turnaround jumper and Tomas Satoransky added free throws for a 4-2 lead. Nissim shined with a floating layup and Necas added a baseline jumper to give Nymburk its first lead, 4-6. Simmons followed a mid-range jumper with an uncontested layup but Mindaugas Katelynas and Sastre kept the hosts within 8-10. Necas sank a jumper and Vladimir Stimac added a power layup to make Cajasol call timeout at 8-14. Sastre struck from downtown, igniting a 7-0 run in which Kaloyan Ivanov sank consecutive jumpers for a 15-14 Cajasol edge. Nissim sank a triple and Ladislav Sokolovsky scored in the low post to put the guests back ahead, 15-19. Nissim made free throws and added a driving layup for a 17-23 Nymburk margin after 10 minutes. Sastre downed his second triple early in the second quarter and free throws by Juanjo Triguero got Cajasol as close as 22-24. Ales Chan shined with a put-back layup and Pumprla scored in transition to give the guests some fresh air, 24-28. Davis hit free throws and matched Mike Lenzly's quick basket with an alleyoop layup for a 28-30 score. Pumprla took over with a tip-in and Simmons added a corner triple to make Nymburk get a 30-35 edge. Davis tried to change things for Cajasol but his team could not find the way to the basket. Meanwhile, Stimac, Simmons and Necas fueled an 1-14 run that Pumprla capped with a big dunk to break the game open, 33-49, at halftime.

Davis tried to ignite the hosts' comeback with a put-back basket immediately after the break and Txemi Urtasun added a jumper but Necas and a three-pointer by Simmons gave Nymburk a 37-54 margin. Davis sank a baseline jumper but back-to-back layups by Stimac and Nissim made it a 19-point game, 39-58. Tariq Kirksay downed a three-pointer off a Cajasol timeout but Nissim answered from downtown to keep Nymburk out of trouble, 42-61. Urtasun joined the three-point shootout and Satoransky added a driving basket to give Cajasol some hope at 48-63. Necas beat the hosts' 2-3 zone defense with a layup while a three-pointer by Simmons gave Nymburk a new game-high lead, 48-68, after 30 minutes. Pumprla took over with an acrobatic layup early in the fourth quarter and soon added a dunk to seal the outcome, 58-72, early in the fourth quarter. Nymburk had started to use long possessions, as both teams fought for points differential, as Cajasol had registered a 16-point win in the Czech Republic. Triguero, Bojan Popovic and Ivanov managed to get Cajasol within 66-82 but Nissim and Simmons allowed Nymburk to register a well-deserved, impressing road win.

PLAZA, JOAN
Cajasol Sevilla
"We have been horrible and we have deserved the defeat. All the teams have bad days and today was our bad day. We thought we could play better. You can lose but you can´t lose this way. We have tried very hard in the Spanish League and it´s difficult for us to do the same 72 hours later. We know we have options to classification to Last 16 yet and we will work hard for this goal sowe need to change our face. "
GINZBURG, RONEN
CEZ Nymburk
"This has been a great win for us. Win a Spanish team It´s very good for the club. We have win a very good team. We have played very well. We have been concentrated since the beginning. The players wanted to win this game. We didn´t have turnovers and It has been very important for the win".

Players

DAVIS, PAUL
Cajasol Sevilla
"We must have better start of the games because we have to fight very hard to get back to it. We hace to prevent our opponents from scoring 6-7 straight points against us. We now have to win the last game against Hapoel, which will be a tough one. If we control the game from the very beginning, I think we can make it to the next round. All of us have to play hard an play like a team, so we have the chance to win the last game."
SIMMONS, TRE
CEZ Nymburk
"We are very happy for the win. We have played very aggressive and have worked very hard all game long. This game has been easier than the one against VEF Riga. This win is very important for us, but we have to focus on the last game to make it to the Last 16."
