THE TAKE

Anwil Wloclawek and Deutsche Bank Skyliners both are still mathematically alive for the elimination round but must win Tuesday's Group D showdown in Poland. Coach Ales Pipan's Wloclawek played tight with Azovmash but ended up losing on the road and dropped to 1-5. Anwil shot 47% for the game but watched Azovmash hit at a blistering 60% clip. Point guard Gerrod Henderson collected 20 points, 4 rebounds and 7 assists while power forward Zelimir Zagorac had 17 points and small forward Alan Daniels chipped in 15 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists off the bench for Pipan. The Polish club committed just 10 turnovers but could not stop Azovmash. With Nancy and Azovmash even at 3-3 in third place, a victory for Pipan's team is a must. Coach Murat Didin's Skyliners meanwhile needs to win its final four games and get plenty of help with other results to advance. Despite seeing small forward Koko Archibong score 10 points in his return, the Frankfurt team lost at home to Valencia to remain winless at 0-6. Power forward Derrick Allen collected 25 points and 7 rebounds while small forward Ilian Evtimov chipped in 13 points. But the starting trio of guards Dominik Bahiense de Mello and Jimmie Hunt and center Antonio Meeking combined for just 4 points. All told, Didin's team shot just 45% from the floor while Pamesa hit 55% for the game. Skyliners lost in Week Two at home against Anwil mainly due to Didin sending six players onto the court after a timeout in the final stages. Look for the German club to push hard for a bit of revenge.

Anwil Wloclawek did its best to remain alive in the race for the elimination round by thrashing Deutsche Bank Skyliners 87-64 in Group D. Alan Daniels led the way with 22 points as Anwil improved to 2-5. Andrzej Pluta added 19 points while Gerrod Henderson had 16 points and Alex Dunn chipped in 13 points. Wloclawek faces a home game next week against Pamesa Valencia. Skyliners meanwhile lost its seventh straight game to fall to 0-7 despite 21 points and 8 rebounds by Derrick Allen. Jimmy McKinney added 13 points in his ULEB Cup game of the season while Koko Archibong chipped in 9 points. Deutsche Bank hopes to finally grab its first win of the season next week at home against Khimki.

McKinney started the game with a three-pointer but Henderson and Dunn combined for nine points and a 9-3 lead. Allen cut it to 9-7 but Pluta's long-ball made it 15-7. And a Pluta three-point play pushed the lead to 22-11 before Allen made it 22-13 after one period. Dunn opened the scoring in the second and Bartlomiej Woloszyn's free throw made it 25-13. Four points by Archibong and Ilian Evtimov's three-point play trimmed the margin to 25-20. But Pluta answered with a long ball for a 28-20 lead. Archibong cut it back to 32-27 but Wiktor Grudzinski nailed a three-ball for a 35-27 advantage, which Archibong made 35-30 at the break. Allen started the scoring in the second half but baskets by Daniels and Henderson pushed the gap back up to 39-32. And a Pluta three-pointer started an 8-0 run for a 51-38 bulge. Frankfurt got the lead down to 9 points but Pluta hit another bomb and the gap was 61-44 after a Daniels basket. Anwil led 61-48 going into the fourth. Allen and Stefano Garris hit for baskets to start the fourth and trim the deficit to 61-52. But Henderson converted a three-point play and Daniels scored three straight baskets and the lead was back up to 70-52. It reached 20 points for the first time with Pluta's triple for 73-53 with six minutes left. Wloclawek built its advantage as much as 27 points - 85-58 - before finally calling off the dogs.

Head Coaches

PIPAN, ALES
Anwil Wloclawek
"It may look as it was an easy game for us, but it wasn't. We showed good defense, especially in the second half. Thanks to that, we were able to score some easy baskets in the breakaway."
DIDIN, MURAT
D. Bank Skyliners
"It's the first time in a few months when we played in almost a full roster. Only one player was absent, but we had an almost perfect siutation on the team. In the second half Anwil showed great tempo game. We tried to defend, but we had problems with their offense. We wanted to win, but our shooting percetnage was poor. I would like to congratulate them."

Players

PIECHOWICZ, MAREK
Anwil Wloclawek

BAHIENSE DE MELLO, DOMINIK
D. Bank Skyliners
"We played well in the first half. Then Anwil completely took control of the game. We weren't able to stop them."
