The Take

These teams meet again for the third time this season. Ioannis Bourousis, who leads the Euroleague in performance index rating (22.2 per game) goes against his former team. Bourousis will get plenty of help around the baskets from Kim Tillie, Toko Shengelia and Darko Planinic. Othello Hunter and Nikola Milutinov will see most of the minutes against Bourousis, while Tillie and Shengelia must be ready to stop mobile power forward Georgios Printezis. Laboral leads the Euroleague in scoring (93.2 ppg.) on its home court, but Olympiacos has the best defense in the competition (68.6 ppg. allowed) and does even better on the road (61.3), so setting the right game tempo will be critical in this game. Laboral relies on Mike James and Darius Adams to run the floor and make the most of its fast wing players: Fabien Causeur, Adam Hanga and Jaka Blazic. Vangelis Mantzaris and Vassilis Spanoulis will try to make Olympiacos play five-on-five, patient offenses to get players like Ioannis Papapetrou, Matt Lojeski and Daniel Hackett involved. DJ Strawberry could be the X-factor for Olympiacos against Adams and James due to his size and speed. Expect a great crowd and an even better basketball atmosphere at Fernando Buesa Arena.

Quotes Head Coaches

Laboral Kutxa Vitoria Gasteiz
"When you play against Olympiacos you always wind up spent, whether you win or lose, because it's a very tough team. They have been playing that way for several years. They have a long bench and a very physical playing style. We have an added plus to be playing with the heat of our fans, but we have to respect our opponents because they are of the first first level."
Olympiacos Piraeus
"Laboral Kutxa is a team that can go to the Final Four. They play excellent, they have six consecutive wins, they won all their home games so far and they have one of the best centers in Europe. I am talking about Ioannis Bourousis. We have to control the rhythm of the game for 40 minutes and play good defense like we did in the first game at home."

Laboral Kutxa Vitoria Gasteiz
"Olympiacos is a very tough team, very serious, and never gives you anything easily. It's one of the best teams in Europe. We can expect a very physical game and it's going to be very difficult. Fernando Buesa Arena is a tough one for opponents, with our crowd behind us, but the Euroleague requires we play at a very high level to win."
Olympiacos Piraeus
"The game is very important for us. They have one of the hardest teams and courts in Europe, so we have to play excellent if we want to win. We have to play with energy for 40 minutes and not allow them to play their game. They love to run and play fast and we have to stop that."

Head Coaches

Laboral Kutxa Vitoria Gasteiz
"I think it was a game that our team fought hard, but we didn't have real chance of winning in the end. We got closer, we came within 6 points in some moments, but we never could get under that limit. Olympiacos played a great game; they did what they needed to do when they needed to do it. They scored when they needed it most, they played a great defense in the paint, they made fouls when they needed to make them and we couldn't fight against that. They deserved the win, they played better and there is nothing left to say. The physical difference was key factor tonight, the team fought as much as it could, but we faced a better opponent tonight."
Olympiacos Piraeus
"It was a very important game for us for two reasons. First of all Laboral Kutxa is a very good team, especially when they play at their home court, where they are very aggressive. Second because this group is a very tough one and winning on the road makes this achievement a very important one. They play with a lot of energy at home, they are tough here; we saw it against Real Madrid last weekend, or against Barcelona previously. We know each other very well as we shared the same group in the first round, but compared to the previous game we played here, I think we stayed more concentrated, and played better in the crucial moments of the game. We started the game very concentrated, allowed only 35 points in the first half thanks to our good defense, which gave us the control of the game. We were ahead in the third period, but we knew that they would try to react. In the fourth quarter we started strong and kept a good margin that allowed us win the game. I think that, considering how the game went, we deserved this win. I congratulated my players in the locker room because they followed the plan we had, but at the same time I told them that the way is long, so we must stay humble, work hard and improve what we still need to improve."

Laboral Kutxa Vitoria Gasteiz
"Basically Olympiacos played harder than us. They did a great job, they hit us from the beginning and even though we tried to come back, we were unable to finish the task. They played hard for 40 minutes, we made silly turnovers, we had to stay focused all game."
Olympiacos Piraeus
"I would like to say that it really was a tough game for us. We managed to play good defense and thanks to that we controlled the game. Everyone contributed both offensively and defensively. "
