THE TAKE

SLUC Nancy will look for its first home win when it hosts struggling AEK Athens on Tuesday at the Palais de Sports Jean Weille. Though Nancy is 2-1, it lost its lone home game in overtime to L. Rytas. Last week the cub proved its toughness by handing Gran Canaria its first-ever home-court loss in the ULEB Cup in a one-sided game that Nancy won by 20. AEK was trounced at home by Hemofarm, 73-93. The key to Nancy's season so far has been defense. The team has allowed more points in its only loss (107) than in its two wins combined (104). Nancy is second in the ULEB Cup in rebounding (41.3 rpg.) and fourth in assists (16.7 apg.), which comes as no surprise since the club boasts the top rebounder Tariq Kirksay (17.3 ppg., 12.7 rpg., 2 bpg.) and the assist race runner-up, John Linehan (6 apg.). AEK, which has not had the same player lead it in scoring in more than one game, has taken the second-fewest rebounds in the league so far (25.3 rpg.). Power forward Jasmin Perkovic (5.3 rpg.), center Brent Scott and Nestoras Kommatos (10 ppg.) will all need to crash the boards to stop Kirksay and Cyril Julian (12.7 ppg., 7.7 rpg.) from dominating and taking control of the game early. Nikos Vetoulas (11.7 ppg.) and Sotirios Nikolaidis will need to be at their best against Linehan and Nancy backourt mate Cedrick Banks (14.7 ppg.). Nancy is the certain favorite at home, but as AEK Showed in Week 1, it has the experience and talent to band together on the road and to challenge for some unexpected results.

Head Coaches

MONSCHAU, JEAN-LUC
Nancy
"It was a good game. We played offense really well during the first half. AEK was dangerous during the second half because it’s a proud team. Scott was very hard to stop because he’s a really strong player. But we stayed focused and we defendeded correctly."
ALEXANDRIS, VANGELIS
AEK Athens
"It was a good game. We had two different faces during the game. On the first half, we had a very bad reaction defensively. We were excellent defensively during the second half. The main reason, we changed defense at halftime was because we received nine three-point shots and during the second half, only one. I want to mention, we missed two important players, Nestoras Kommatos and Christos Tatoupos."

Players

KIRKSAY, TARIQ
Nancy
"I think, offensively we did a really good game. We made big shots but during the second half we forget to play as an ULEB Cup game. We thought about the next national championship game."
HAYES, DERON
Nancy
"We played collectively during all game. I think we were less focused during the start of second half. Athens switched defense after the halftime. They defended man to man and we had to adapt our play."
NIKOLAIDIS, PRODROMOS
AEK Athens
"We knew Nancy is a really good team. They have a lot of good players. We came here to play a strong game. In the first and second quarters we didn’t defend well. I think during the second half, Nancy played a little bit bad for us but they won, it’s ok, it’s basketball."
