THE TAKE

Benetton Tamoil will try to move into the elimination rounds with a victory at home over Artland Dragons on Tuesday. Head coach Oktay Mahmuti's Benetton captured its fourth straight win by beating Lukoil Academic to improve to 5-3. Mahmuti's Italian side shot 55% from the field and committed just 7 turnovers on the road, winning despite getting out-rebounded 35-25. Playmaker Lionel Chalmers led the way 30 points while big man Mario Austin had 21 points and 11 rebounds and shooting guard Reece Gaines added 17 points. Treviso lost the first match-up in Week 4 in Germany as Artland shot 57% and won the rebound battle 33-17. But this is a different, more confident Benetton side. Artland meanwhile desperately needs a victory to stay in the running for the elimination rounds. Since beating Treviso, head coach Chris Fleming's Dragons have lost three of four games, including a loss last week at ASK Riga, to fall to 4-4 - one game behind Benetton and Lukoil Academic. Fleming's side made just 37% of its shots, turned the ball over 22 times and was out-rebounded 35-27. Shooting guard Lamont McIntosh scored 13 points and reserve forward Paul Johnson chipped in 10 points. But it was not nearly enough for Fleming's reeling team. Unless Artland can pull off a tough win on the road, it will be left thinking "what if" after starting the ULEB Cup season at 3-1.

Lionel Chalmers - Benetton Tamoil Benetton Tamoil extended its winning streak to five games and booked a spot in the elimination round after a convincing 82-64 victory over Artland Dragons in Group H. Benetton Tamoil improved to 6-3 by giving up just 22 points in the first half. Lionel Chalmers controlled Treviso's offense with 29 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists. Reece Gaines had 14 points and Matteo Soragna chipped in 12 points and 6 rebounds. Artland Dragons dropped to 4-5 with its fourth loss in the last five games - eliminating the team from the next round. Jan Rohdewald and Earl Rowland both scored 12 points for Artland while Darious Hall and Adam Chubb tallied 10 points each and Leon Rodgers chipped in 9 points and 11 rebounds in a losing cause. Artland Dragons finishes its ULEB Cup season at home against BC Kyiv and Treviso travels to ASK Riga.

Hall opened the scoring for the guests, who jumped ahead 1-8 after a pair of three-pointers by Rohdewald. But Chalmers scored eight points in a 14-0 run for a 15-8 lead. Chalmers also made a three-pointer as Treviso pushed the lead to 22-9. It was 22-11 after one period. Andrea Renzi started a 7-0 run to begin the second period as Soragna's triple made it 29-11. Another Soragna long ball made it 35-15. And the hosts did not stop as a Mordente three-ball and four points by Chalmers pushed the cushion to 45-20 late in first half, which ended 47-22. Hall's three-point play started the second half but Benetton's hot shooting from the outside kept Artland at bay. Tamoil was up 56-29 after a Gaines basket and it was 63-35 after a Gaines triple. Dragons did trim it to 65-42 going into the fourth. And Chubb's basket to begin the final period cut the deficit to 65-44. But Giuliano Maresca answered right back with a three-ball. Another Chalmers long ball pushed the advantage to 73-46 and Artland could not come back against the Tamoil reserves. Rowland's triple trimmed the margin to 19 points - 77-58 - with just more than two minutes left. But Mordente answered with a long ball of his own to re-establish the 20-plus gap.

Head Coaches

MAHMUTI, OKTAY
Benetton Tamoil
"We were able to control the game in every feature from the beginning, that's why the gap was so important. We let things get easier during the match, we played a good game both defensively and offensively, this is the way we have to get the pass for the next round."
FLEMING, CHRIS
Artland Dragons
"We didn't come into the game and we were in trouble every time against a team which was really aggressive expecially in defense. We have trouble with some injured players, like Madrich and Chubb, and Benetton Basket made a better job adjusting to the situation of many injured players. Now we will have a full week to prepare for the game against Kiev, we hope to get better."

Players

CHALMERS, LIONEL
Benetton Tamoil
"It was a good game for us, we needed this win to make sure about the qualification. The key for the win? Being always aggressive and focused on what we had to do during the game, so we always had the pace in our hands."
CHUBB, ADAM
Artland Dragons
"Nothing worked tonight in our system, congratulations to Benetton Basket which played great defense, they didn't let us have easy ways to the basket, that was the key of the game tonight."
