Historic matchups vs. Olympiacos
VIDEO: Pre-game Interview, Pablo Laso | Pre-game Interview, Felipe Reyes | Pre-game Interview, Georgios Bartzokas | Pre-game Interview, Georgios Printezis

The 2012-13 Turkish Airlines Euroleague season reaches its climax with Sunday’s final, in which Real Madrid takes on defending champion Olympiacos Piraeus at The O2 in London, England. These teams also met each other in the 1995 Euroleague final; Madrid beat Olympiacos 73-61 in Zaragoza, Spain, for the most recent of its record eight Euroleague crowns. Olympiacos wants to become the first team to successfully defend the Euroleague title since Maccabi Tel Aviv did so in 2005 in Moscow. If they do, it would be the Reds' third Euroleague trophy.

Controlling the game tempo will be a priority for both teams. Olympiacos used outstanding defense to reach that goal against CSKA in the semifinal, allowing just 52 points and outrebounding its opponent 29-41. The key player for the Reds was Kyle Hines, who offered intensity, energy and great activity off the bench. Hines will once again lead the defensive charge in a frontcourt that also includes tough, blue-collar players Pero Antic, Josh Powell and Giorgi Shermadini. Georgios Printezis, who hit a history-changing, game-winning shot in the final against CSKA last season, will try to use his size and mobility against All-Euroleague Second Team selection Nikola Mirotic in what promises to be one of the critical matchups in this game. In another big matchup between arguably the best two players on the floor Friday night, Hines will hustle and battle for rebounds against Felipe Reyes, who always delivers in games like this one. Reyes will get plenty of help under the boards from Rafael Hettsheimeir, Mirza Begic and Marcus Slaughter, whose defensive skills, athleticism and team-oriented mentality have made him an essential player for head coach Pablo Laso. Acie Law could be Olympiacos's starting point guard, with Dimitris Katsivelis ready to bring defense and intensity off the bench. Law will likely see many minutes against creative playmaker Sergio Rodriguez, who changed the game against FC Barcelona Regal in the second quarter with his court vision and determination. Katsivelis must be ready to go against explosive guard Sergio Llull and former Eurocup MVP Dontaye Draper. Llull, however, will see a lot of playing time against reigning Euroleague MVP Vassilis Spanoulis, whose experience and all-around skills make him the player to stop. Olympiacos also has good options on the wings, such as 2012-13 Rising Star trophy winner Kostas Papanikolaou, small forward Stratos Perperoglou and clutch guard Kostas Sloukas. Papanikolaou and Perperoglou must be ready to stop All-Euroleague First Team forward Rudy Fernandez, who will try to connect from downtown and play above the rim, and Carlos Suarez. Sloukas and Spanoulis must do their best to slow Jaycee Carroll, who offers instant offense as Los Blancos' sixth man.

The whole season comes down to one game, so taking care of small details will be critical for both teams. Olympiacos needs to run its offense through Spanoulis and Papanikolaou and of course, if it is able to repeat the defensive, physical effort it had against CSKA, it will get closer to defending its throne. Madrid needs a good game from Fernandez and Mirotic, but just like against Barcelona, the team relies on a talented, deep second unit led by Reyes, Rodriguez and Slaughter to step up if need be. Whoever controls the boards and handles the pressure better will be... the 2012-13 Turkish Airlines Euroleague champion!

Quotes Head Coaches

BARTZOKAS, GEORGIOS
Olympiacos Piraeus
“Obviously the challenge in the final is huge as well is our motivation to get the title. Madrid is the wsinningest team in European basketball with so many titles. It’s a huge club. We are going to play a completely different team from what we faced yesterday. This team has enthusiasm, speed and is very good offensive rebounding, which will be very difficult for us We have to be very quick on defense and in our attack. The psychology is very important. The physical and psychological aspects are equal. I don’t know if it will be a high-scoring or low-scoring game, but it will be attractive basketball.

“My players read and know what happens in our country. In Greece the enthusiasm for basketball is excessive. That’s in our Mediterranean character. We have to control ourselves. My players are very good at taking in the information that I give them. They want to do their best and they prepare for their best. I don’t agree that we haven’t done anything so far and that only the cup matters. Coming here was already a very big success. I’m optimistic that we’ll come to the final with a good attitude.

“We are not going to train tomorrow morning. The distance is too big in London. What is of interest to us is the training this afternoon.

“Yesterday we had a defensive plan which did not include only [Milos] Teodosic. I think players like Khryapa, Kirstic and Weems require a big effort to be stopped. We played as a team. We restricted Teodosic, but the other work was equally as important. Madrid is deep and has players that can do everything. Their three guards [Rudy Fernandez, Sergio Llull and Sergio Rodriguez] are very important, but they have Reyes, Slaughter, Mirotic, you cannot single out one or two or three players. We came [Friday] with our teamwork and we will try to do that tomorrow.

“Neither of us have experience in a final as coaches. Apart from preparing the team for the semifinal we prepared video for the other two teams. The coaches reviewed video last night and we have more video before today’s practice to show our players what to expect. That [Coach Laso and I] haven’t played finals before is not an advantage or disadvantage because neither of us has. There are no surprises, they know how we play and we know how they play.

“I agree completely with Coach [Laso]. We play in a Final Four with four great teams. We cannot personify what happened last night and talk about the coaches. It does not mean that we are better than other coaches. It means that our teams were better. We hope that tomorrow our teams will do a better job and we will win."
LASO, PABLO
Real Madrid
"This is a Euroleague final against the defending champion, a team which may have seemed to be a surprise last season, but that has proved that it is the real thing by returning to the title game. It is a team with many players from last season and a coach that has done a great job with them. They have been able to play at a high level all season. If we want to get this title, we are aware that we have to have a great game.

"I try not to live a situation like this as an extra pressure. Coaching Real Madrid means pressure from Day 1 and in the end, you are the one to put pressure on yourself. I know what it means to be in a Euroleague final and my players are aware of that, too. We know who we will play against and have great respect for the reigning Euroleague champion. Right now, after sleeping well, I am looking forward to this game, willing to prepare the team to get to this game in the best moment of the season, so that we can compete and win the Euroleague title.

"As Coach Bartzokas said, this is a final. When you get here, you think you have to win two big games and prepare your team for that purpose. We will study Olympiacos well, but we are already in May and the team started to work in August. If we want to change Real Madrid and Olympiacos from Friday to Saturday, it will be just details. You did a job that brought you here, which speaks about the strength of both teams. We will prepare details, but the teams that got to this press conference started to work in August.

"When you have two teams so deep, with so many talented players, it is very difficult to know which players' matchups will be critical. Sloukas, Spanoulis and Law make Olympiacos strong at both guard positions, as my players do, too. I do believe that there are two frontcourt players which are very similar, Marcus Slaughter and Kyle Hines, with similar characteristics. I think that Georgios and Felipe are glue guys for their teams. In the end, in a game at this level, there are decisive matchups, but the most important thing is to translate them into a team effort. This is a team game and whoever plays better as a team will win the game.

"I think that experience is important because it gives you wisdom. The more you go to class, the more you learn; that is logical, but there is people that go to school all their life and never learn. Ettore Messina and Xavi Pascual are two great coaches. I didn't beat Pascual and he didn't beat Xavi; Madrid beat Barcelona and Olympiacos beat CSKA. I have great respect for all the coaches I play against. Coach Bartzokas did a great job and I wish him luck starting on Monday.

"I respect the Spanish Federation's work and the way they start working with kids. The Spanish basketball success at all age categories start with little kids who get that competitive gene from when they are young. I have been to youth championships and see how that competitiveness grows. Teams have different chemistry and situations, players from other countries who don't feel as they do with their national teams. I think I have a group of Spanish players that know each other for a long time and are looking to pass on that chemistry to players from other countries. Getting that chemistry is critical for me as a coach."

Players

POWELL, JOSH
Olympiacos Piraeus
“We have to act first, we can’t respond. We have to come out fighting, we have to come out with energy, defending. We have to play hard. I think that’s our really best brand of basketball when we come out and do things like that. [Madrid is] a tough team. They execute, just like CSKA. Take advantage of mistakes by their opponents. We have to make sure we limit our mistakes. The other thing is we gotta to rebound. That’s a key for tomorrow. We gotta box out. We’re also good on the break when we run. In a game like this, it’s really about who wants it more. Everything is not gonna be perfect. So we gotta find a way to win; we gotta play hard. We know that they’re a team that loves to go across the boards. That’s one thing that we gotta eliminate. Preparation is always key to everything. The switch doesn’t just come on. We’ve been practicing really hard, day in, day out. I think that’s where our preparation for the game started. Mentally we’re focused.”
SPANOULIS, VASSILIS
Olympiacos Piraeus
"The key to the game will be to control and slow down the tempo of the game. To know when to run, and when to play set offense. We have to control rebounds, because Real Madrid is very aggressive and probably the best team in Europe on offensive rebounds. We have to play with the same energy and the same passion, and we will see which team will want it more. Last year the entire season we were the underdog, and this season everybody was waiting for us as the Euroleague champions, and we managed to do the same and make it to the finals again. That means a lot for this club, and for our character, and for what we deserve. I think we deserve to be here, one win away from winning the trophy."
ANTIC, PERO
Olympiacos Piraeus
"This is no coincidence [being back in the Euroleague final]. We worked hard for this all season and wanted to prove to everyone that we deserved to be here. It was a big challenge for us and we answered it pretty well. We played 40 minutes of great defense against CSKA. Sometimes we play periods of good and bad defense, but not against CSKA. That was the key - repeat the defense. I don't care about the offense, if we play that kind of defense against Madrid, the same we did against CSKA, I am sure we will win the game. Winning again would mean a lot to all of us. I dreamed about it for many years. I won it once and now have the opportunity to win it twice, to be the second team to repeat in the Euroleague. It would be a dream come true."
HINES, KYLE
Olympiacos Piraeus
"Being back to the Euroleague final shows the great character of our team. We have great guys on this team, everybody worked very hard and this is a goal we had set in the beginning of the season. For me, it is amazing that we accomplished after so many up and down moments this season. Madrid is a very talented team. They have great offensive weapons and are a really good team; some of them also play together in the Spanish national team. Our keys don't really change. We have to be very strong, physical and aggressive in the defensive end and rebound. They are the best rebounding team in the Euroleague so it is important for us to control the tempo, the rhythm of the game by rebounding, getting in transition to run and do what we do best."
LAW, ACIE
Olympiacos Piraeus
“I think this time last year I wasn’t expecting to play and it was a matter of getting as much treatment as possible to feel as good as I could so that I could contribute and help the team. And this year, my body is feeling great, I’m playing well, my team is playing well and I’m looking forward to staying healthy and getting prepared for the game. We have a tough opponent. It’s going to be a great game. I’d be lying if I said there were no nerves. These games don’t come along often. And I’ve been blessed and fortunate enough in my two years in Europe to be in this game, back-to-back. There’s a lot of anxiety leading up, but at the same time you want to embrace it, you want to enjoy it. Hopefully our team is able to play well and make history. That would be big for not only Olympiacos, but for me, coming over, being an American in Europe and in my first two years in Europe to be back-to-back champion, that would be big. Madrid is a great team. It’s something that I don’t think we’ve seen thus far this season. They play extremely fast. Rodriguez had a great game [Friday] night. Llull, Fernandez, their guards, Carroll. They’re a guard-oriented team and they still have talent on the interior. From the film it looks like they play a lot through their guards. That’s going to put a lot of pressure on me and Billy [Spanoulis]. I think’ we’re up to the challenge. Billy and I had good seasons; obviously Billy is the MVP. We’ve done a good job on opposing team’s guards Hopefully we put together one more 40 minutes of good basketball and can win this thing again.”
PAPANIKOLAOU, KOSTAS
Olympiacos Piraeus
"It is a big chance to make history and defend the Euroleague title, that would be a big thing for our club. But we do not want to think like that. We want to stay concentrated and think about the final like it is another game. Try to enjoy it, do our simple stuff, think about what coaches told us and what the tactic is. But we all know that in these games it is not a matter of tactics or strategy, but it is a matter of heart. Who wants it more and who shows more passion for the win. We were in this same situation last year, but every final is different, it is a new challenge."
PRINTEZIS, GEORGIOS
Olympiacos Piraeus
“For me and for us it is a great honor to find ourselves in the final after this difficult season and to be able to challenge for the trophy. It’s not very easy for our country to have a team in the Final Four every year. In our opinion our opponent has a better team, better players, big bodies. They are in good form. It will be very difficult. If we want to have a chance, we have to show same strength and focus as we did yesterday.

“Experience is very important, especially in the Final Four. It depends on the day. Many Real Madrid haven’t played finals in the Euroleague, but they have in the national level. They can manage very well, just like us. And we proved that yesterday.

“Everything positive from our team starts with defense."
RODRIGUEZ, SERGIO
Real Madrid
"They play with two point guard and, depending on the game moment, one or the other handles the playmaking duties. When Spanoulis plays shooting guard, he is completely different from Juan Carlos Navarro, as he gets the ball really often. We have to limit him as much as possible. Talent-wise and in the way they can finish game, both players may be similar, but they are different players. Spanoulis plays more pick-and-roll and handles the ball more often. We have to use a different defense against him, of course. They jump on pick-and-rolls and have mobile big men that can play defense on anyone. We have to try to find the open man to break their defense."
FERNANDEZ, RUDY
Real Madrid
"The way they played against CSKA last night, you can tell that Olympiacos's players have known each other for a long time. It is a group of players that play together, as a team, knowing each other. They thrashed CSKA yesterday, showing it is a great team with a lot of experience in these kinds of games. I believe Olympiacos is a tougher opponent for us than CSKA in this final. Olympiacos knows how to play a Euroleague final. They know they have nothing to lose and in that sense, that allowed them to play the way they did last night. If I had to choose, I would say that Olympiacos is more experienced than us in this situation."
CARROLL, JAYCEE
Real Madrid
"It is great to be in the Euroleague final. I am very excited to be here, it is a dream-come-true. We need to match their aggressiveness and physicality. They are a physical team that is very aggressive on defense. We cannot be on our heels all day. We need to be aggressive, go towards the basket and look for opportunities. They played great defense against CSKA, but they have a different style than we do. CSKA tries to create mistakes and take advantage of them, but Olympiacos did not make those mistakes. Like I said, we have a different style and hopefully we will have a better result against Olympiacos."
MIROTIC, NIKOLA
Real Madrid
"We worked the entire year to come to this game, and now we the only thing on our mind is to beat Olympiacos. We need to know that they are the Euroleague champions from last season, and if we want to beat them, we need to play a complete game. Against Barcelona, for instance, we played 20 to 25 minutes good, but to win the title we will need to extend that to all 40 minutes. We need to stay calm before games like this final, there is enough pressure already, and you should stop pressing yourself even more. But when gametime comes, we need to look one step ahead. Our key to this season's success is that we play stellar basketball, especially on offense, but in some important games this season we proved we can also play good defense, as well."
LLULL, SERGIO
Real Madrid
"We did not play Olympiacos this season, but we all know they are the reigning Euroleague champions, and on Friday they just destroyed CSKA Moscow. We know all their players, and how they play. It is important to stop Spanoulis, obviously he's the Euroleague MVP this season, but he is a big-time player who always plays good these kind of games. But we cannot forget other players, who also have a lot of experience in this kind of games. We need to do a really good job on defense, team defense, and try to control rebounds and then run the fastbreak. That is our weapon, and we feel comfortable when we play fast."
REYES, FELIPE
Real Madrid
"As with every final, it is going to be a very tough game against a great team that defeated the theoretical favorite by playing very aggressive defense and very beautiful basketball. It will not be easy at all, just like in any final. It will be very balanced and I hope that we come out motivated and focused, not being nervous about being in the final, so that we can lift the trophy.

"As Georgios said, they are more experienced in the Final Four because they played the final last season and won the title, playing an outstanding game. I believe that even though we haven't played a Euroleague final before, we were in very important finals at the national team level and have the experience required for games like this. We will see which of the two teams has more problems to handle the pressure, but both teams are very experienced in games like this.

"We put the right pressure on ourselves. We want to achieve this dream of lifting the Euroleague trophy. We don't need anyone from outside or you, the media, to tell us that Real Madrid has not won the Euroleague for many years. We try to focus on our work and not pay too much attention to what you say, because that could go against us. It is true that we are all working hard to have a good game tomorrow and to take the trophy to Madrid. It will be difficult; Olympiacos is at a high level, but that's the goal."

    Olympiacos repeats as Euroleague champion!

    copa

For the second year in a row, Olympiacos Piraeus roared back from a double-digit deficit to become the Turkish Airlines Euroleague champion. The Reds bested Real Madrid 100-88 at The O2 in London after trailing by 17 at the end of the opening quarter and in doing so became just the fourth team to win back-to-back Euroleague titles in the Final Four era. In something that has become characteristic of the Reds, they got tremendous contributions from their second unit, led by Kyle Hines and Pero Antic, to climb back. Then Euroleague MVP Vassilis Spanoulis heated up in the third quarter and Olympiacos dominated the final 10 minutes as thousands of red-clad fans sang and clapped the night away. Euroleague MVP Vassilis Spanoulis led the charge with 21 points – all in the second half! – as six Olympiacos players scored in double figures. Acie Law collected 20 points and dished 5 assists, Hines added 12 points, Kostas Sloukas 11 and Stratos Perperoglou and Antic scored 10 apiece. The title is the third continental crown in Olympiacos’s illustrious history. Before beating CSKA Moscow last season in Istanbul, it defeated FC Barcelona in the 1997 title game in Rome. Rudy Fernandez led Madrid with 21 points, Sergio Rodriguez scored 17 and Sergio Llull finished with 14. Madrid lost its first final since it defeated the Reds in the 1995 Euroleague final in Zaragoza, Spain, but remains European basketball’s winningest team with eight Euroleague titles.

First quarter: Madrid wows crowd with explosive start

Georgios Printezis opened the 2013 title game in the similar way he finished the one a year ago, with a baseline floater. However, Olympiacos did not generate much more offense in the early goings, as Madrid only allowed a Josh Powell jumper in a span of almost four minutes. Meanwhile, Madrid opened its account with back-to-back triples from Fernandez and Nikola Mirotic, before a layup by Mirza Begic after a behind-the-back pass from Fernandez put Los Blancos up 4-8. With Begic setting the defensive tone with 2 blocks in less than five minutes, Sergio Llull hit another triple and Mirotic finished a fastbreak with a layup for 5-13. After a timeout, a big dunk from Kostas Papanikolaou ended the Olympiacos drought, but a layup from Begic and a triple from Fernandez made it 7-20. Hines answered with a basket-plus-foul on the other end, but Llull countered with Madrid’s fifth triple of the quarter, and then added a driving layup high off the glass, before Fernandez’s fastbreak layup rounded out the first quarter scoring, making it 10-27 after 10 minutes.

Second quarter: Reds roar back behind aggressive second unit

Pero Antic started the scoring in the second quarter with a triple – the first for Olympiacos. Hines followed it up, muscling his way for a basket inside, before Perperoglou sank another shot from downtown to make it 18-27. After a timeout, Fernandez scored a pair of free throws to score the first points of the quarter for Madrid, but Perperoglou nailed a long jumper and Antic made a big two-handed slam cutting it to 22-29. As Olympiacos raised its defensive effort, Madrid was six minutes without a field goal before Reyes laid it in from close range. Madrid followed that up with a beautiful Fernandez-to-Reyes-to-Slaughter alley-oop, but Antic scored a layup after a big offensive rebound from Giorgi Shermadini for 28-33. After another timeout by Real Madrid, Rodriguez made a driving layup, but Law nailed a triple and made a fastbreak layup to help the Reds come within 34-37. In the final minute of the quarter, a pair of free throws from Rodriguez and a basket inside from Slaughter looked to give Madrid more breathing room, but Kostas Sloukas was fouled shooting a triple 0.8 seconds before the halftime, and with his 3 free throws made it 37-41 at the break.

Third quarter: All the makings of an instant classic

Law and Begic traded layups to kick off the third quarter, before Spanoulis nailed back-to-back triples – his first points of the game – to put the Reds in front 45-43. Mirotic answered with a shot off the glass, but Spanoulis continued his shine with his third triple on as many trips down the floor. Then, it was time for Hines to shine, scoring a put-back on one end before making a spectacular block on a Mirotic fastbreak layup on the other. Law grabbed the loose ball and raced for a layup and a 52-46 edge. After a timeout, Madrid found some of its offensive rhythm and went inside to Slaughter, who made a tough basket, but it was Fernandez back in the main role, getting a roll on a baseline floater and sinking a triple to put his team back in the lead, 55-56. Before the quarter’s end, Hines delivered 2 blocks on Fernandez, and made a layup for the Reds, but 2 free throws from Rodriguez made the score 61-61 going into the final 10 minutes.

Fourth quarter: The champs pull away and party

A tough turnaround jumper from Perperoglou opened the quarter. After Law made 4 free throws, Spanoulis hit a three-pointer to make it 70-62, making the Olympiacos faithful go wild. Madrid found an answer in Jaycee Carroll who hit a three, but Perperoglou replied right back with a triple and Sloukas added a jumper. Shermadini’s basket-plus-foul and a pair of free throws from Spanoulis gave the Reds their first double-digit lead of the game, 80-70 with exactly five minutes to go. A layup from Antic before a timeout, and a fastbreak dunk from Papanikolaou after it, extended the margin to 14. Rodriguez made a jumper, only Madrid’s second field goal of the quarter, but a layup from Printezis kept Olympiacos’s lead safe, 87-73. As the Reds started to run out the clock, Rodriguez made 4 from the foul line and hit a baseline jumper to keep Madrid’s hopes alive, but Spanoulis sank a three-pointer from way downtown for 90-79, essentially sealing the deal. Before game’s end, players from both teams went on several trips to the free throw line, as Sloukas, Spanoulis and Antic combined to go 5 of 6 to keep the Olympiacos lead safe.

    Head Coaches

    BARTZOKAS, GEORGIOS
    Olympiacos Piraeus
2Life makes beautiful stories and I want to thank everybody that belongs to Olympiacos. We had a very difficult time throughout the year. It was a very difficult situation with injuries and people were talking against us. But we reached the summit again. Our character is of a team that never gives up. We can play different types of basketball. We can score 60 points like against Moscow or 100 in the next game. We were united and we are a big example for all of Greece that we can make miracles.

The fact that Olympiacos turns games around has happened many times this season. We do not panic. We have a way to come back in games. We have players with a character. They have soul. I just tried to encourage them. Real started very strongly. We felt a shock. The team plays a very different game than we play. Real is a very talented team. We said that we have to make sure that we take the defensive rebounds. And then there was Vassilis. In the second half we thought it was impossible for Spanoulis not to be extremely good.

I was in the right place at the right time with this team. I was lucky to lead a team that has shown so many times that it has great talent and plays in a great way. I just managed the situation with my coaching staff and achieved this great moment.

Everything is God’s will, but God and luck are with people who try to do things.

It’s very honorable to consider Olympiacos one of the best teams in the Euroleague. This result shows that we are one of the best. We spoke about the talent, but the best thing about this team is that it works very hard individually and as a team. They accept that they have to work very hard.

The Serbian coaches who achieved the previous titles with Greek teams helped Greek basketball. They brought the knowledge. We say there is a school of coaches and there is a great character. I’m very lucky, but in my face is the face of the Greek coach. I hope there is a continuation and many coaches will achieve more titles."
    LASO, PABLO
    Real Madrid
"Like I always do, I congratulate them for the championship. They played a great game. It was very competitive from the beginning. And they are the true champion, because they had a great year all around. After that I cannot even have a bad word about my team. My team gave everything they had from inside from the first moment this competition started. I told them in the locker room today. We feel like shit now, but we should be very proud about what this team has been doing in this competition the entire year. This is a sad day. But to lose finals you have to be in finals. And that’s what I told my team. I want to thank the people from Madrid. We couldn’t have made it this far without them. I think they should also be proud of this team because I am the coach and am proud of them."
"It was a game with a lot of physical contact, with a lot of speed. It was a great game. We started off playing very good. Our defensive plan was working perfect at the beginning of the game. We were making tough shots. And to me we had too much of an advantage. They will talk about the big difference, but it wasn’t that big of a difference. They were missing shots and we were making shots. They only had one way to come back. And they did."
"The first three plays of the third quarter made the difference. Spanoulis made three three-pointers in a row. And in the end, they were able to control the difference in the score. They are the champions."

    Players

    SPANOULIS, VASSILIS
    Olympiacos Piraeus
“It was an unbelievable three days in London. We came as champion, but also an outsider. You know the budget and the difficult season we had after being a champion and then playing so many games. We had our backs against the wall so many times. There was a lot of discussion, but this was good because it made us stronger. We overturned many games like today. We beat two great teams, and we deserve to be at the top of Europe."

“The last two games have been very difficult for me. I always faced two or three players on me. But this is my role. I attract players on me to open up other players. I tried to look and find out what would be the best solution and try to see what Real Madrid was doing and I was better in the second half."

“We know that a game lasts 40 minutes and not 10 minutes. We did it before. We were down 15 against Efes and that gave us wings to continue fighting."

“Scoring 100 points in a final is a big achievement. This team has amazing chemistry. Everyone knows his role. Coach came into a difficult situation. We remained united in the locker room. You can see that the character is excellent. We feel like a family and we are a family."

“We just want to enjoy this. It doesn’t happen every day. It took us 15 years to win a title and now we have one two years in a row.”
    PERPEROGLOU, STRATOS
    Olympiacos Piraeus
"I feel great! This is an amazing feeling! This is my third Euroleague title and I feel really great, it is hard to describe! For the second time in a row, Olympiacos is at the top of Europe. It is a really hard thing to do. I feel blessed; I don't know what to say. We were down by 17, but never lost control. This team never gives up!"
    HINES, KYLE
    Olympiacos Piraeus
"I mean, there is no words! We deserved this, we worked really hard and getting the Euroleague title for the second consecutive year... I am speechless right now! We were down 17 points, but were able to have our own run, come back and win the game. We are back-to-back champions! I really can't describe how I feel! Defense is always key, but we did what we could in offense and scored 100 points! It is amazing!"
    ANTIC, PERO
    Olympiacos Piraeus
"This is amazing, this team is unbelievable. With this team chemistry, we could beat anybody. Everybody saw the way we played together, it was incredible. Repeating the Euroleague title is history and we did that together, all of us. This really could not be better. We had to rally to win the game and did it. Same as last year! I feel perfect; even happier than last season!"
    SHERMADINI, GIORGI
    Olympiacos Piraeus
"This is very exciting. I joined the team in the middle of the season and we won the Euroleague. I don't know how many people thought we could do it, but we're here and we're celebrating. It's an amazing feeling that I wish every person in the world could feel this way. I just want to enjoy this moment as much as possible."
    PRINTEZIS, GEORGIOS
    Olympiacos Piraeus
"It's a very special feeling. It was a very different game from last season obviously, but we still had to come back and win this game in style. We're all very, very excited and can't think of something better than this. I can't compare the feeling from last season. In both cases it feels just great, but in a different way maybe. We're very excited and proud to have won this title."
    LAW, ACIE
    Olympiacos Piraeus
"We did it again. It's an amazing feeling. We didn't stop to believe for one second, and that's what makes this team special. To win back to back is really crazy. I'm so happy and proud to be part of this team. We were down by 17 in the first quarter, but made it back to win this game. Everybody on this team deserves credit. We changed coaching staff. We brought in some new players. But we stayed the same. We're always Olympiacos."
    SLOUKAS, KOSTAS
    Olympiacos Piraeus
"Unbelievable. It's really unbelievable. We were behind and came back like we did so many times before. To win back to back Euroleague championships is something very few teams managed to do. We're proud to be in that very prestigious group of clubs. Our fans support us all the time and they deserve this feeling. We're extremely proud to make it happen for them and for us. Real Madrid was a tough opponent, but we came back and showed what kind of team we have."
    GECEVICIUS, MARTYNAS
    Olympiacos Piraeus
"It's an unbelievable feeling. To win the Euroleague championship is huge and we did it twice in a row. In the last two years we came back from behind so many times that it's not something special we did today, only it was in a championship game. It's a great team and a great organization. Olympiacos and our amazing fans deserve this trophy so much. We'll travel back to Greece now and enjoy the celebrations tonight as much as possible."
    PAPANIKOLAOU, KOSTAS
    Olympiacos Piraeus
"I will put it in a few words; this team cannot lose a final! This is crazy, it's unbelievable! We did it again! We came here just to fight for the best result we could get. Not only did we win the Euroleague and defend the title, you look at the scoreboard and we scored 100 points! I really can't say more. The scoreboard is up there!"
    KATSIVELIS, DIMITRIOS
    Olympiacos Piraeus
“This is amazing! I cannot describe it in words. It is everybody's dream to repeat as the Euroleague winner. I feel amazing! We didn't play so well in the beginning and didn't put too much effort and energy in the game. We improved our defense in the second half, made the open shots and won the game. It is too early to know which of the two Euroleague titles is more special. I am very happy and want to enjoy this moment!"
    POWELL, JOSH
    Olympiacos Piraeus
"This is a blessing. We played hard all year! This is the biggest accomplishment; being able to come over here and get the Euroleague championships, helping the team to win it again. For this team it is an amazing thing to do. We never gave up! We never gave up not only tonight, but all season. It was a tough game. Madrid is a really good team but we were able to get it done."
    LLULL, SERGIO
    Real Madrid
"We had a good Euroleague. This is a young, ambitious team. We want to go back to the Euroleague final next season and try to win it. When you play a final like this, you have to leave everything you have on the court. We had a great start, but maybe ran out of batteries too early. They returned to the game before the break and have more experience in close, important games like this. They played better and deserved to win. We had a good Euroleague, but it is tough now because we lost the final. We cannot allow 100 points. It was not our best game, but we have to learn from this."
    FERNANDEZ, RUDY
    Real Madrid
"We tried to be aggressive this game. They started going inside more after we started getting into foul trouble. That worked for them, and Olympiacos has a lot of experience in these games and in these situations. We have to learn from this for the next season."
    CARROLL, JAYCEE
    Real Madrid
"We got a good lead as they did not make anything, and we made everything. Then they started to get their shots in. They are here for a reason, they have guys that are going to fight, they are going to make shots, and they made shots in the second quarter. They got within 7, and then we made a silly foul on a three-pointer that cut the lead to 4 at halftime. We were still in control of the game, but what I think really changed the game was when Spanoulis came out and hit three triples and that forced us to change our defense a little bit. That left other openings for them."
    SLAUGHTER, MARCUS
    Real Madrid
"We started on fire, then we cooled down. Basketball is a game of runs, we made a big run at the beginning, but we slowed down and could not make any more shots. They are a great team and they deserve this victory. They came back and showed a heart of a champion. They made big shots, MVP Spanoulis made big shots. Unfortunately, we are not the champions, it is a tough pill to swallow."
