In-form Unicaja Malaga attempts to seal a place in the Top 16 and to continue a winning streak that has stretched to five games. It will do so against Asseco Prokom Gdynia at Martin Carpena Arena in a game that Prokom needs to win in order to keep its Top 16 hopes alive. Normally rock solid at home, Unicaja’s record against Prokom is a curious one. Whenever these two sides have faced off, the visiting team has always emerged the winner. That was the case earlier this season in Poland, where Unicaja claimed a tight 75-77 road win. Unicaja has been in top form as of late, and this was evident last week when it ended Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv’s unbeaten run with a 62-64 triumph, featuring a great team effort. Earl Calloway had one of his quieter games, but the guard has been a very useful addition to the roster this season and leads the Malaga scoring table. The team presents double difficulty for Prokom with the combination of Calloway and Marcus Williams, who was top scorer against Maccabi. Williams is also a powerful threat from outside as the second most prolific shooter in the Euroleague from beyond the arc. Forward Txemi Urtasun has also been busy in 2012-13 and his partner in crime in the frontcourt, James Gist, offers points and a spectacular playing style that has made him a regular in the plays of the week. Prokom’s creative force is point guard Jerel Blassingame, who ranks third in the league in assists. Seven of those dishes came in the meeting between Prokom and Unicaja in the first half of the regular season, in a game in which fellow guard Lukasz Koszarek put up his best numbers (16pts, 8 assists). Malaga improved to 6-1 with its sixth straight win – paced by 12 points from Kosta Perovic, who had totaled just 8 points in the first six games of the group. Earl Calloway added 11 points for the winners. Prokom came into the game hitting 40 percent of its three-pointers, but missed its first 19 triple attempts in dropping to 1-6 in the group. Prokom, which lost its ninth straight road game dating back to December 2010, was led by Adam Hrycaniuk’s 10 points. Alex Acker and Rasid Mahalbasic both added 9 points in the losing effort. First quarter: Slow rhythm leads to tight start Unicaja coach Jasmin Respesa trusted the same starting five that ended up beating Maccabi last week – Calloway, Txemi Urtasun, Zoran Dragic, Fran Vazquez and Luka Zoric. It was our expectation, but in the Euroleague each game is very tough and winning 6 games is a very good result. Now we are in excellent position and we will be little bit comfortable playing without stress the rest of the way. We have to play all the games with the right approach, though. For me it was important to win, but at the same time it is important that no player played more than 25 minutes and that we did not spend much energy because we were traveling a lot lately, not practicing much. Defensively it was a really good game, offensively sometimes we were without enough focus. Almost every player started the game with one or two mistakes, and the players off the bench contributed right away."

Now we are in excellent position and we will be little bit comfortable playing without stress the rest of the way. We have to play all the games with the right approach, though. For me it was important to win, but at the same time it is important that no player played more than 25 minutes and that we did not spend much energy because we were traveling a lot lately, not practicing much. Defensively it was a really good game, offensively sometimes we were without enough focus. Almost every player started the game with one or two mistakes, and the players off the bench contributed right away."
