THE TAKE

Turk Telekom looks to clinch first place in Group A as it hosts winless Guildford Heath. Head coach Ercument Sunter's Turk has already booked its spot in the elimination round and would grab the top spot with a victory and a Joventut loss. Telekom comes into the game at 8-1 after holding off Alba Berlin on the road. The Turkish side was out-shot 47%-50% and lost the rebound battle 34-25. But Turk turned the ball over just 11 times and made 16-of-17 foul shots compared to just 5-of-9 for Berlin. Playmaker Khalid El-Amin again picked up his game with ULEB Cup leading scorer Michael Wright out, scoring 24 points and dishing out 4 assists. Power forward Chris Williams collected 12 points, 6 rebounds and 6 steals while center Erwin Dudley had 18 points and 5 rebounds. And reserve small forward Haluk Yildirim chipped in 11 points and 4 assists. Sunter's club is looking to repeat its dominant Week 5 showing at Guildford, where Telekom shot 60% and out-rebounded Heat 41-27 in winning by 40 points. Guildford Heat meanwhile is still looking for its first victory after losing at home against Siauliai to drop to 0-9 - one of only three winless teams. Head coach Paul James's British side shot just 44% and was out-rebounded 41-24 by Siauliai, which also shot 54% from the field. Shooting guard Daniel Gilbert did all he could with 23 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals while shooting guard Elmer Johnson had 19 points and small forward Tony Dorsey chipped in 12 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists. James hopes his troops can rally one more time and finish the club's first ULEB Cup campaign on a high note.

Turk Telekom celebrates Turk Telekom put an end to its ULEB Cup regular season with a final home win on Tuesday by blasting the Guildford Heat, 92-73. DKV Joventut's win in another Group A at Siauliai guaranteed Penya the first place of the group, and Turk Telekom will finish second also with a 9-1 record, while the Heat says goodbye to its first ULEB Cup appearance with a painful 0-10 mark. Tutku Acik led the winners with 20 points including an amazing 6 of 6 three-pointers, Erwin Dudley and Chris Williams added 17 apiece, Khalid El-Amin had 11 and Yaluk Hildrim posted 10 for Turk Telekom. Michael Martin led all scorers with 28 points for the Heat and 4 of 4 triples, and Tony Dorsey tallied 21 points. The guests managed to stay ahead until the break but in the second half, Turk Telekom rolled to cruise for the final win.

Michael Martin's basket allowed the Guildford Heat to start the game with a 5-11 lead but the hosts soon reacted as Bekir Yarangume scored for Turk Telekom to make it 10-11. Tony Dorsey's three-point play maintained the guests ahead, but Turk Telekom pushed hard and soon was dominating the score, 20-19, after Erwin Dudley's two points but a last Martin triple allowed the guests to finish the first quarter ahead by 2, 20-22. Dudley was excelling in offense for the hosts but the Heat stayed ahead despite Turk Telekom's efforts, 26-32. Khalid El-Amin made the hosts get close again but Dorsey's points made it 34-39 at the halftime break for the Guildford Heat. However the second half started with a hurricane by the hosts who managed to hit a 15-2 run in three minutes to soar to 49-41 in minute 23. Elmer Harrison hit a three for the Heat as a recovery sign, and it worked as the guests managed to stay in the game after that. However, Turk Telekom had managed to build a slim lead and played with its own pace after that. A new stroke to the gas pedal definitely allowed Turk Telekom to pull ahead for good, 81-60 in minute 35 after Dudley's basket.
