THE TAKE

Dynamo Moscow hosts Climamio Bologna on Thursday night at the Krilatskoe Arena in a pivotal Group A match for both teams. Dynamo (1-1) comes off a heavy road loss at Tau Ceramica knowing that a win on its home court will reestablish the path to the Top 16 and keep down a potential challenger. Dynamo might have to do so, however, without the services of big man Lazaros Papadopoulos, who is suffering heel pain and questionable to play on Thursday. The visitors have their own serious injury concern as sharpshooter Marco Belinelli missed a domestic win over the weekend and is not sure to play against Dynamo. Climamio (0-2), having lost both on the road and at home, knows that an 0-3 hole will be difficult to dig out from. The game marks the first time these teams have ever met. Dynamo point guard Eddie Gill played 15 minutes in his debut against Tau, as he builds chemistry with his new teammates. The more Gill can play, the more dangerous the team's backcourt, featuring Bojan Popovic and veteran Dimitry Domani, plus swingmen Travis Hansen and Sergey Monya, can be. The savvy perimeter players from Climamio will surely provide a tough test for Dynamo. Belinelli is one of the top young shooters in European basketball, while point guard Tyus Edney is among the most accomplished players in the Euroleague. Small forward Preston Shumpert is a multi-dimensional talent, who'll do whatever he can to help his team win, whether its scoring, passing, playing defense or driving the team bus, while forward Stefano Mancinelli is a scrappy hard-nosed player, who can make an impact off the bench. Both teams have atypical power forwards, strong, but quick players who can score in the post or fire in three-pointers. However when Moscow's Antonis Fotsis and Bologna's David Bluthenthal square off, the mismatch effect won't be in play. If Dynamo cannot depend on Papadopoulos, Climamio's center rotation of wide-bodied rebounder James Thomas, big Vassil Evitmov and Tomas Ress will have to take advantage. If Papadopoulos plays and is able to control the paint, it will open up Dynamo's attack for the game-changing open-court skills of players like Sergei Monya or young Dimitriy Khvostov. Both teams know that despite this being just the third game of the season, the result can have a lasting effect. That should translate into an intense battle with a crucial victory at stake on Thursday.

Quotes Head Coaches

IVKOVIC, DUSAN
Dynamo Moscow
"In the Euroleague, at every stage, it is always very important not to lose at home, so all teams have as a priority objective to win as many games as possible on their own court. Climami has already lost at home against Olympiacos and will try to make up for that loss by winning a road game. I'm sure they arrive in Moscow with their spirits high after a big overtime victory against Napoli in the Italian League. On our side, we've had a difficult situation concerning a series of injuries to our players. Miroslav Raicevic remains out, while we try to get Papadopoulos recovered. Hansen played very little on Sunday in Russia and on Tuesday didn't practice due to flu. Right now, not even I can say which players I can count on for Thursday. Speaking of Climamio, our basic work should be to stop their shooters, Belinelli and Shumpert, stop a dangerous Bluthenthal from playing one-on-one from the power forward spot, and limit the great creative abilities of the expert, Tyus Edney, who had 13 assists against Napoli."
FRATES, FABRIZIO
Climamio Bologna
"We fly to Moscow after beating Napoli. I have already seen improvements in our game and this last domestic win gives us a lot more confidence. One victory doesn't solve all the problems, but it gives us some relief. At practice, I see my guys improving day after day. Now, we have two important games – Dynamo Moscow in the Euroleague and Milano in Italy. Both are important, but Dynamo is first. If we want to pursue our Top 16 dream, we have to win. We're not yet at the crossroads, but winning in Moscow can help us in the standings. We don't know yet if Papadopoulos will play for Dynamo, but they're a great team anyway. They have experience and consistency. Papadoupoulos is a force in the paint, while Travis Hansen and Bojan Popovic are playing very good. The team is very deep and all the players are Americans or national team members. It won't be easy, but we're going in the right direction."

"Climamio comes to Moscow with two defeats and the hope of stopping that losing streak, because they know that a third loss can make their qualification for the next round difficult. Both teams have injury problems, but you have to deal with those situations during the course of a season. We know each other well, and these days, tactical surprises don't exist. I hope that we take advantage of our home court to achieve our second victory, but we have to play better, above all on offense, than we did in the second have in Vitoria last week."
BLU, DAVID
Climamio Bologna
"The Euroleague is the best competition in Europe and I'm very happy to be back. It gives you the opportunity to play two games a week and that's important for a player. I'm in good shape and I know what you need to do if you want to go far in this competition. Finally, I am a starter in the Euroleague and I can say that I don't fear any other power forward. I just have to do what the coach wants from me. We've taken some time to adjust because we didn't play many games in the preseason and we still have to find the right chemistry. That's why we've started 0-2. Another reason is that we didn't focus a lot in the second halves after playing good in the beginning of both games. Dynamo Moscow is a big team, with good players and a famous coach. I know they are in the Euroleague for the first time and I guess they will be excited to play in front of their crowd. As always, team play will be the key to having a good game."
Antonis Fotsis - Dynamo Moscow Dynamo Moscow overcame injuries to stay unbeaten in its brand new Krilatskoe Arena by downing Climamio Bologna 78-73 in Group A on Thursday. Dynamo improved to 2-1 in the Group A standings and keeps its Top 16 chances intact, while Climamio dropped to 0-3 and needs to start winning right away in order to advance to the next round. Dynamo played without big men Lazaros Papadopoulos and Miroslav Raicevic but found a go-to guy in Antonios Fotsis, who led the winners with 26 points on 10-for-13 shooting and 8 rebounds. Travis Hansen added 14 points while Dmitry Domani added 12 for Dynamo. Preston Shumpert had 16 points for Climamio, Tyus Edney and David Bluthenthal each added 11 while Stefano Mancinelli popped 10 for the guests. The game saw as many as 13 lead changed before Shumper capped a 0-6 run which gave Climamio a 61-68 lead with 5 minutes to go. Hansen and Fotsis fueled a game-breaking 15-2 run which allowed Dynamo to get a big home win.

Marco Belinelli opened the scoring with a big driving layup which Fotsis erased with a fallaway jumper. Belinelli quickly answered with a long two-pointer and James Thomas made a free throw for a 2-5 Climamio lead. Domani got Dynamo back in track with free throws, igniting a 10-0 run highlighted by Bojan Popovic's driving basket. Climamio called timeout to find answers in offense, but by the time Domani hit a short jumper and Andrei Trushkin scored in the paint, Dynamo lead 12-5. Edney hit a jumper off the dribble but Fotsis erased with a driving basket and then dunked it to give his team a 16-7 margin after 7 minutes. Bluthenthal and Mancinelli stepped up with consecutive triples while Edney buried another shot to get Climamio within 16-15. Dynamo struggled against the guests' zone defense, but Hansen scored 4 points on a free throw and a triple which Daniele Cavaliero matched in the other end to bring Climamio within 20-18 at the end of the first quarter.

Daniele Cavaliero - ClimamioFotsis kept Dynamo going with a high-flying put-back dunk to which Hansen followed with another slam in a spectacular start of the second quarter. Thomas tried to change things with a tip-in, while Climamio had improved its defense. Bluthenthal fired in a short jumper, forcing a Dynamo timeout at 24-23. Yuri Vasiliyev scored in penetration but Cavaliero buried his second triple to tie the game, 26-26. Fotsis answered from downtown but Mancinelli followed Bluthenthal's free throws with a floating layup to put Climamio ahead, 29-30. Vasilyev scored around the basket and even when Bluthental answered with a layup, teen sensation Dimitriy Khvostov buried a triple for a 34-32 Dynamo edge. Vasco Evtimov fed Bluthental for an easy layup while Shumpert nailed a short jumper which allowed Climamio to regain the lead, 35-36, at halftime.

Dynamo started to power the offensive board to get second-chance points. after the break. Andrei Trushkin dunked it off a midcourt steal which Shumpert erased with a six-meter jumper. Domani answered in the other end and soon added a driving layup to give Dynamo a 41-38 lead. Shumpert followed a driving layup with a running three-pointer to provide another lead change, 41-43. Trushkin tied the game with free throws but Edney answered in a six-meter jumper. Fotsis kept pacing Dynamo with an open triple but Edney scored again in transition. Trushkin hit another foul shot but a red hot Shumpert answered from downtown and Edney added a power layup for a five-point Climamio lead, 47-52. Hansen and Thomas exchanged baskets, but Fotsis - who else? - nailed a wild three-pointer to get Dynamo within 53-54. Belinelli and Mancinelli shined with consecutive triples but a follow-up layup by the ever-present Fotsis and Domani brought Dynamo within 57-60 after three quarters.

Khvostov showed his talent with a tough jumper which Belinelli matched in the other end to keep Climamio ahead, 59-62. Trushkin scored inside, but Climamio had started to gain the momentum with its zone defense. Meanwhile, Evtimov fed Mancinelli for a key basket and then added a put-back layup for a 61-66 Climamio lead with 7 minutes to go. Shumpert capped a 0-6 run with a fast break layup, but Hansen hit back-to-back triple to bring Dynamo back to life, 67-68. Shumpert stepped up with a layup but Fotsis bettered him with a layup-plus-foul and then added a fast break dunk for a 72-70 Dynamo edge with 4 minutes remaining. Climamio called timeout but an unsportsman foul on Edney allowed Popovic and Domani to give Dynamo a six-point lead, 76-70, after a 9-0 run. The guests went scoreless during 4 long minutes down the stretch, as even Edney hit a free throw with 24.2 seconds to go, it happened to be too little, too late for Climamio.

Head Coaches

IVKOVIC, DUSAN
Dynamo Moscow
"I want to congratulate my players for the victory. Today they showed a lot of character and heart. It was really hard to prepare for this game with Papadopoulos and Raicevic injured. Hansen played after being sick and missing practice for three days. We started the game well, we led early by 9 points and we played fast. They tried to play zone defense and it caused us many problems. Being without Papadopoulos means playing without an inside game. Our defense helped us and their experienced players made 16 turnovers. We had 11 offensive rebounds, which was very important for us. After the last timeout we were losing by 7 points and I think we played a great 4 minutes after that. We turned the game around and took a 7-point lead. The Euroleague season is very long and it's very important not to lose home games. I hope we'll have some time to rest a little bit. We have no game on Sunday in the Russian League, so we'll work on individual play and we'll have enough time to prepare for the road game against Sopot in Poland."
FRATES, FABRIZIO
Climamio Bologna
"First of all compliments to Dynamo, they fought for this win. We had a real opportunity to win tonight. We led for a long time, we led by 7 points with about 6 or 7 minutes left. I think we played good basketball for 25 minutes, but not the first and last 5 minutes. The last 5 minutes were definitely very important in the game. We committed three turnovers in a row and Dynamo took the opportunity to change the game. Regarding Belinelli, it was my decision for him to play 20 minutes. I felt he wasn't right tonight. When I substituted him for Cavaliero, he gave a good effort to the team. But Belinelli was on the floor at the end of the fourth quarter and he made some key shots, so I don't think he was out of the game."

Players

FOTSIS, ANTONIS
Dynamo Moscow
"This is a great victory for our team because we had so many problems with injured players and also Hansen was sick. But we fought all 40 minutes, we didn't lose hope when Climamio led by 7 points and finally we celebrated. Of course, I am satisfied with my game tonight but I always try to do the same: to help my team. And tonight Dynamo won because all players gave their maximum."
SHUMPERT, PRESTON
Climamio Bologna
"We played very well during 35 minutes but the problem is that the game lasts for 40. Also, Dynamo is a very good team. Yes, I believed that we were very close to win when we took a 7-point advantage, but then Hansen scored two incredible three-point shots, they were back on the game and finally won. But, I am not disappointed, we lost but we play each game better and better and I am sure that we can reach our target and play the Top 16 in the Euroleague."
