THE TAKE

Prokom Trefl and Dynamo Moscow will square off for the first time in their respective histories on Thursday for a Group A encounter in Sopot, Poland. Prokom (1-2) is coming off a 23-point drubbing at the hands of Olympiacos, but returns to Olivia Sport Hall, where it has won four straight. There were a few bright spots for coach Eugeniusz Kijewski's side in Greece, with shooter Donatas Slanina coming through with a season-high 19 points in 19 minutes, while point guard Justin Hamilton delivered 15 points. Dynamo trailed by 7 points midway through the fourth quarter last week against Climamio, but finished the game on a tear to improve to 2-1 this season. Playing without center Lazaros Papadopoulos, Dynamo found a go-to guy in forward Antonios Fotsis, who scored 26 points on 10-for-13 shooting and grabbed 8 rebounds. Dynamo enjoyed a bye-week in the Russian League, which allowed coach Dusan Ivkovic's squad some extra time to rest and to prepare for Prokom, although Papadopoulos remains out of action. That means that in addition to Fotsis, reserve centers Andrei Trushkin and Yuri Vasilyev will need to rise to the occasion. That won't be easy against one of the top centers in the competition, Huseyin Besok. Though injuries have limited his minutes, Besok has been his same dominant self on the court, averaging 10 points and 6 rebounds in just 19 minutes per game. Besok is joined by Tomas Masiulis, Adam Wojcik, Filip Dylewicz and Michael Andersen in a deep and versatile frontline that will try to wear Dynamo down. Bojan Popovic, Dmitry Domani and Travis Hansen form the spine of the Dynamo bakcourt. Playmaker Eddie Gill could be ready to take on an extended role after more time with the club and his presence would help, as Dynamo is ranked third-bottom in the league in assists (8.7 apg.). The Prokom starting backcourt of Rashid Atkins and Hamilton, backed by Christian Dalmau and Slanina, has been a responsible unit so far, helping the team commit only 33 turnovers all season, one more than the league's best. Prokom's guards will have to find the balance between attacking the basket and feeding the big guys to maximize the team's chances. It's nearly impossible to know what to expect from Dynamo with Papadopoulos a question mark and a pair of inexperienced big guys ready to step in, but this could be a defining moment in their career and one that all fans should see.

Quotes Head Coaches

KIJEWSKI, EUGENIUSZ
Prokom Trefl Sopot
"This will be an important game for us. We play at home and these types of games we should treat especially serious if we want to get to the next round. I think that the game with Dynamo will be similar to the game with Le Mans. I know it is the early phase of the Euroleague, but the match with Dynamo can be our do-or-die game. We have great respect for the Russian team. The have very good players and a well-balanced team. We have to play 100 percent, because Dymano is a team that we can beat."
IVKOVIC, DUSAN
Dynamo Moscow
"We had problems preparing for Climamio last week because we were missing Papadopoulos and Raicevic, while Hansen was sick. Papadopoulos is very important for our game, not only as a scorer but as a very creative player and very good passer. We are in a similar situation again, because Papadopoulos won't play, which means we'll have to re-plan another game without him. Fortunately, Hansen is well again. We can expect a difficult game because Prokom is tough at home. I hope we control the game better than our last road game, against Tau in Vitoria, where we lost not because of bad defense but because of bad offense, with 18 turnovers. Prokom will look for a home win, but this can also be our opportunity because sometimes the 'obligation' to win at home can be complicated for a team."

Players

WOJCIK, ADAM
Prokom Trefl Sopot
"This will be one of the key matches of this season. We will play at home and we cannot lose if we think of getting to the Top 16. We will see what will happen, but I'm optimistic. Dynamo has a big budget, many good players and an experienced coach. It will be a hard game."
BYKOV, SERGEY
Dynamo Moscow
"Prokom has two advantages: they play at home and they have more experience because this, I think, is their third consecutive participation in the Euroleague, while we are debutantes. But, we have great wish to do something good in our first Euroleague season, and the best way is to win. Of course, we will have a very tough game, like all games in the Euroleague, because there are no bad teams in this competition. We have some problem with injuries, but we were in the same situation against Climamio - maybe worse, since Hansen was sick - but we were able to win. I hope that we can repeat, but we must to play better in attack than against Tau in Vitoria."
Jasmin Hukic - Prokom Trefl Prokom Trefl outlasted Dynamo Moscow 60-49 for a crucial Group A win on Thursday night in Sopot, Poland. Prokom, which led 26-24 at the end of a low-scoring first half, improved to 2-2, the same record Dynamo has after the loss. The teams are now tied with Le Mans and Efes Pilsen for third place in the group. Jasmin Hukic led Prokom with 11 points, while Huseyin Besok, who came up big in the second half, finished with 10. Dynamo's Bojan Popovic led all scorers with 14. Prokom dominated inside and won the battle of the boards 43-32, but shot only 13-of-23 (56.5%) from the line. On the other end, Dynamo, which was without injured center Lazaros Papadopoulos, had trouble on the perimeter, making just 2-of-16 (12.5%) three pointers.

Both teams struggled on offense at the start of the game, before Hukic finally opened the scoring for Prokom. Popovic pushed Dynamo ahead for the first time with a layup and a free throw on the next possession. Christian Dalmau responded with a triple, but the next few minutes belonged to the visitors. Popovic was the main factor in a 0-7 run, which gave Dynamo the biggest lead in the first half 5-10. However Dynamo lost the ball twice on the break and Prokom found success on the perimeter, as Donatas Slanina and Hukic scored 5 in a row for a 13-12 lead. Andrei Trushkin answered with a basket inside before Adam Wojcik closed the period with a free throw to tie the score at 14-14.

Filip Dylewicz opened the second period with easy points on the break, but Popovic was still on fire on the other side. Yuri Vasilyev threw down a monster dunk, but Wojcik responded with a hook for a 19-18 advantage. Rashid Atkins and Sergey Monia traded bombs from a downtown, but those were the last baskets for a few minutes as both teams played tough defense. Prokom tried to force the game inside and used its advantage on the boards. The hosts drew some fouls and went to the line, but missed its free throws. Dynamo woke up with Eddie Gill finding Trushkin for easy points inside. Dimitri Domani increased the lead to 22-24 from the line before Prokom finally found a way to the basket. On the last possession of the half, Jeff Nordgaard stole the ball and raced in for a layup to give the hosts a 26-24 at the break.

Bojan Popovic - Dynamo MoscowThe second half started with Huseyin Besok dominating inside and Atkins running the show. Prokom rode those two to a 13-2 run, which gave them a 39-26 lead. Hukic made another triple during the run, while Hamilton scored all of his 7 points in the period. The Polish champions played much faster and built the advantage on easy points. Moscow still didn't have an answer for Prokom's tough defense and could only score from the line. Popovic made four consecutive free throws, but it wasn't enough as Prokom held on to a 44-30 lead following Tomas Masiulis's free throws. Trushkin took an offensive rebound and made a dunk to end the period with Prokom leading 44-34.

Travis Hansen got things going for Dynamo with a three-point play and Gill added a bomb from a downtown to get within 4, but Besok answered inside again. Prokom had a scare when Hamilton picked up his fifth foul midway through the period, but remained in control. The visitors tried to close the gap with outside shots, but to no avail. Popovic finally made a three-point play and cut the gap to 49-45, but Besok quickly did the same on the other side. Then Dalmau's seven-meter triple gave Prokom another double-digit advantage with 90 seconds remaining and it was clear that home fans could celebrate for the second time this season. Slanina made a three-pointer to end the game with Prokom on top 60-49.

Head Coaches

KIJEWSKI, EUGENIUSZ
Prokom Trefl Sopot
"It was a difficult game from a psychological point of view. We had to win it. The result is good, but we did not play well. I'm satisfied with our defense. We would be happy if we played such defense each week. Our first goal was to stop Hansen and Fotsis, who are great shooters, and we could not leave them wide open outside. They made all their attempts under pressure. One of the goals was to win on the boards and also we wanted to get easy points after fastbreaks. Thanks to fastbreaks, we took an advantage."
IVKOVIC, DUSAN
Dynamo Moscow
"It was not a game played on a Euroleague level. I know that Prokom could be playing under pressure: they had to win the match. However, I cannot understand my team. I cannot explain to myself what we presented today. We started well, but then we lost too many easy points. Hukic scored a triple and Prokom made some three-point plays. In the first half we had 11 turnovers and 11 missed shots. This shows how we played. Prokom was better. No doubt about it."

Players

BESOK, HUSEYIN
Prokom Trefl Sopot
"I'd like to thank all my teammates and all the fans. It was a tough game, but a very important victory for us. Maybe from outside that match didn't look so good. Both teams missed a lot of easy shots, so that's why we have this result at the end. It wasn't an offensive game, but the most important thing is a victory. Our goal is the Top 16, so we have to win our home games particularly. We have three games left here in the first round of the regular season and we need to count on at least two more wins."
DOMANI, DMITRY
Dynamo Moscow
"It's always bad to lose, but this time it was twice as bad because of the way we played. We performed very, very bad and I cannot say more. It's my only comment, because coach said everything about our bad performance."
