THE TAKE

Swans Gmunden looks to shake off a two-game losing streak and remain on the heels of the leaders in Group E as it welcomes KK Buducnost to Austria. Coach Bob Gonnen's team fell to 2-2 losing at Antwerp Giants, which collected its first victory in the group. The Austrians struggled to 17 turnovers while shooting just 10-of-16 (63%) from the foul line. Gonnen got a great game out of guard Deteri Mayes who had 19 points and small forward Ian Boylan, who collected 13 points, six rebounds, seven assists and two steals. But that duo just did not get enough help. And with Group E up for grabs with two games difference between all six teams, Swans must win its home games if it wants to advance. Coach Dejan Radonjic's Buducnost meanwhile eased past Hapoel Galil Elyon to notch its third straight win and a 3-1 record. The Montenegrins led by 23 points after one period and never looked back. Shooting guard Bojan Bakic's 17 points paced five players in double figures. Point guard Nikola Otasevic came off the bench for 10 points, two rebounds, five assists and four steals and reserve power forward Vladimir Dasic had seven points, nine rebounds and three assists. With a rematch coming up next week against Triumph Lyubertsy, Buducnost would love to go into that match at 4-1 and have the chance to avenge its only loss. But first Radonjic's troops must first get by Gmunden.

Bojan Bakic scored 16 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter, including a key basket and a pair of free throws to hold of a late Swans Gmunden rally as KK Buducnost earned a 72-79 road win in Austria to remain tied for first place in Group E. The game was as close as could be through three periods, before Buducnost opened the final period on fire riding Bakic to a 10-point lead. Ian Boylan led a spirited Gmunden comeback to within 2, but Bakic stood tall down the stretch to secure the victory. Buducnost won its fourth straight to improve to 4-1 before visiting co-group leader Triumph Lyubertsy next week. Gmunden meanwhile fell to 2-3 and will host third place Benetton Fribourg in a key encounter next week. Vladimir Micov posted 12 points and 9 rebounds, while Vladislav Dragojlovic added 11 points for the winning team. Deteri Mayes led Gmunden with 26 points, Boylan added 18 points and 7 assists and Matthias Mayer scored 10 in defeat.

The game was close from the very beginning. Marko Popovic's basket and Dragojlovic's free throw gave the visitors a 0-3 start, but that would prove to be the biggest lead of the first period, which featured five lead changes and five ties. That pattern remained early in the second period until Dragojlovic heated up and helped Buducnost to a 25-30 advantage. Andreas Helmigk cut it to just 1 point, but Ivan Maras kept the visitors ahead at halftime, 33-37. Mayes scored 5 straight midway through the third to put the hosts on top once more and despite Buducnost tying the score twice more, Gmunden held a narrow 53-51 lead heading into the fourth quarter. However Buducnost came out firing in the fourth quarter: Dragojlovic tied the game, Bakic hit a three and Buducnost continued to score until it led 59-69. Boylan led the Swans back with a 10-2 run and a Mayer capped that run with a big three to make it 69-71, but Bakic rose to the occasion with a clutch basket and then hit a pair of free throws in the last minute to seal the win.

Head Coaches

GONNEN, ROBERT
Swans Gmunden
"We did everything right, we played hard, we played good defense, we just missed our shots. We had layups, freethrows, open threes. On this level, that costs you the game."
RADONJIC, DEJAN
KK Buducnost
"We expected to win this game tonight because we prepared very well for this game and we knew all things in their game. We are young and unexperienced and we played very well in this kind of situation because the home fans were very loud. That was our fear."

Players

HUTTER, PETER
Swans Gmunden
"Little mistakes made the difference."
MARAS, IVAN
KK Buducnost
"It was a tough game. In the third quarter we blew our chances to win. Then, in the last quarter we played good defense, that won us the game. This was very important for us, now we play next week in Moscow for the first place."
