The Tivoli Pavilion was a sold out tonight and there was a lot of expectation about this game. One of the reasons was the return of Marko Milic, a local favourite who had spent 6 years playing for the Ljubljana club. He was received warmly by the crowd who honoured him with a standing ovation. The game began with a frantic rhythm and a close score (12-12 in minute 4). Kovacic had already scored 8 of the 23 points he would score in the game, while Alberto Herreros and Milic led Madrid in this first quarter. The two teams remained very close during the first five minutes of the second quarter, but in minute 15 Real Madrid rallied to a 9-0 run that put it ahead 33-39. The Spaniards also dominated the offensive rebound, but Udrih and Jordan hit two three-pointers that tied the score once again. The third quarter was like the first five minutes of the second quarter, extremely balanced. There was a constant struggle for every ball and Real Madrid continued to dominate on the boards. The game reached the last period with the two teams very close on the scoreboard. It was at this point when Olimpija started defending better and improving its outside shooting, just the opposite of how Real Madrid was playing. With 2:30 to go, Olimpija scored 10 straight points which got the Tivoli crowd on its feet. The game went on to 81-77 with 1:37 remaining. Angulo missed a shot under the basket and Olympia took advantage by scoring a three-pointer by Arsic with only 0:46 to go. The game was for the team from Ljublijana (88-79). The key players in Olimpija were Kovacic (23 points with 9-of-12 field goals and 5-of-5 free throws), and Arsic (18 points and 7 rebounds). The best player on Real Madrid was, once again, Alberto Herreros (20 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals and 2 turnovers), while Milic was capable of combining the most amazing plays with rookie errors, surely due to the fact of playing in front of his former fans. Once again, Real Madrid came back to Spain having lost in Lubljana.
