Zalgiris of Lithuania returned to the scene of some of its big wins last season to finish off Peristeri in Athens 62-70 on Wednesday in a Group B game that settled sixth place. In its last road game of the season, Zalgiris (4-9) withstood a third-quarter comeback by Peristeri (3-10) to win going away and break the tie between the two teams. Zalgiris broke out to a 14-21 lead after 10 minutes but Peristeri came back by winning the middle quarters by a difference of 11. Zalgiris showed poise to make to make up a four-point deficit, 53-49, entering the final quarter and win by a healthy 8 points. Zalgiris was led in their comeback by incredible free throw shooting from their big man, Grygorij Hiznjak. Hiznjak finished with a game-high 25 points which included 13 for 15 from the line, the majority of them in the fourth quarter. That proved to be the difference in the game. Donatas Slanina also came up big in the final period, scoring 6 of his 14 points, and Steve Woodberry also added 14 in the winning effort. Adam Wojcic led Peristeri with 19 points, followed by Michael Anderson with 14.

"It was an interesting game. Both teams played very hard on defense. In general I was satisfied with our defense, but their big man destroyed us. Our offense also struggled throughout the game. I gave a lot of minutes to our younger players. Playing our young guys was good to give them valuable experience and this game proved to be a test for the Greek league."
