THE TAKE

Panellinios BC and Galatasaray Café Crown square off on Tuesday night with very different outlooks in Group E. While undefeated Galatasaray could mathematically qualify for the Last 16 with a win in Athens, the home team needs to win to keep pace with the winner of the Gasterra Flames/Bennet Cantu matchup, as they all share the same 1-2 record midway through the regular season. Panellinios could well be tied for first if it had won at Istanbul in their previous game, but Galatasaray confirmed its status as the top candidate to advance to the next round, thanks to 19 points by Josh Shipp on 7-of-8 two-pointers, and 15 more from Tutku Acik. Veteran big man Djuro Ostojic was again an important piece for Panellinios, has he tallied 15 points in the paint, while guard Manolis Papamakarios added 10. Ermal Kuqo and Luksa Andric have proven to be an imposing one-two punch at center for Galatasaray, so Panellinios will need to provide some sort of backup help for Ostojic with its backcourt featuring Papamakarios, Georgios Kalaitzis and Vasilis Xanthopoulos. High-scoring power forward Radoslav Rancik, should still be the main offensive option for Galatasaray, even though he has struggled a bit to find his touch of late. Talented forward Evren Buker can also pick up the slack, while Panellinios is hoping for a big game from Maurice Bailey at the guard spot in order to better their 53 point total in Week 3, the lowest mark of all 16 games played.
