THE TAKE

BC Kalev/Cramo could move into a tie for first place in Group G as it plays host to co-leader Asvel Basket. Coach Veselin Matic's Kalev/Cramo was blown out on the road at Panionios in falling to 3-3 - one game behind the leaders. Kalev/Cramo was behind by 20 points at halftime and finished the game with 25 turnovers while getting out-shot 53%-45% and out-rebounded 35-25. Center Travis Reed proved one of the few weapons for Matic's Estonian team with 25 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists. Reserve forward Rait Keerles was the only other player to score in double figures with 11 points. Power forward Kristjan Kangur was held to 8 points - 9.2 points below his average. With three teams at 4-2 and Panionios also at 3-3, Matic's club knows winning this home game is a must. If Kalev/Cramo can match its Week Two victory at Asvel, Kangur and point guard Marlon Parmer are going to have to pick up their games. Kangur, Parmer and Reed each scored more than 20 points in Week Two. But Parmer has totaled just 13 points in his other five games. Matic cannot afford that against Asvel. Coach Yves Baratet's Asvel Basket survived a fourth quarter comeback in beating Ludwigsburg and improving to 4-2. The French side out-scored Ludwigsburg 30-14 in the third period and held on for the victory despite forcing just 10 turnovers and shooting just 44%. But Asvel won the rebounding battle 43-34 and limited Ludwigsburg to 40% from the floor. And Asvel had a clear advantage at the free throw line - hitting 20-of-32 (63%) compared to Ludwigsburg's 8-of-12 (67%). Power forward Lamayne Wilson paced four starters in double figures with 20 points, 5 rebounds and 2 blocked shots while small forward Robert Conley added 14 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. This group could become a lot clearer after this week or even cloudier with it being possible that five teams are even at 4-3.

Troutman answered back for Asvel, though another three from Kriisa established a 29-23 Kalev lead after 10 minutes. Kangur hit from downtown to restore Kalev’s double digit cushion, but a 3-10 run highlighted by 4 points from Nouhat Diakite reduced the difference to 40-37 with less than two minutes left to halftime. Troutman from mid range fixed the score at 41-39 at the break. Kangur opened the fire to give another 46-41 cushion to BC Kalev, but Sangare put Asvel ahead on 47-48 after three minutes. Nsomwu extended it to 47-53 with a free throw and the guests remained on fire, adding to lead till it his 52-66 on a mid-range jumper from Aymeric Jeanneau. Head Coaches

MATIC, VESELIN
BC Kalev/Cramo
"They tried to play zone and surprise us. In the first half, they also played zone and we didn’t have turnovers. Our passer only had 2 turnovers, but in the second half, we were scared to continue shooting. Against the zone, if you are free, you have to shoot and believe you will score. In any case we have to learn that in the ULEB Cup we play against top teams. I think that if we can get two more wins we have a chance for the next round."
BARATET, YVES
Asvel Basket
"It was an important game to win tonight. We were playing against a quality team who beat us at home. We had to win to stay on top of the ULEB Cup. I'm very satisfied with the win."

Players

KANGUR, KRISTJAN
BC Kalev/Cramo
"I don't have much to say. We were in trouble with their zone defense today. We took too many 3-point shots and none of our plays didn't really come out as supposed to."
TROUTMAN, CHEVON
Asvel Basket
"We did exactly what we had to do. We overcame lot of things, such as a difficult travelling here. I'm glad we won."
