Regular Season, Round 6: The round of road warriors

Round 6 left both Russian teams - CSKA Moscow and Khimki Moscow Region - atop the standings, each with a 5-1 record. Meanwhile, no teams remain winless as Anadolu Efes Istanbul picked up its first win of the season. While CSKA and Khimki registered respective home wins, Efes was among four road warriors along with the defending champion Fenerbahce Dogus Istanbul, a record-breaking Zalgiris Kaunas, and Panathinaikos Superfoods Athens which downed archrivals Olympiacos Piraeus.

CSKA Moscow 94-67 Valencia Basket

A slow start did nothing to impede CSKA Moscow from walloping Valencia Basket 94-67 on Thursday to run its record to 5-1 and its home winning streak to 14 in a row. Valencia led 6-17 before Nando De Colo came off the bench to lead a 14-2 run as CSKA took over to lead 43-58 at halftime and used a 30-16 advantage in the third quarter to break the game open. De Colo tallied 23 points despite not playing the final quarter, while Cory Higgins had 16 and Othello Hunter pulled 10 rebounds. Valencia, which dropped to 3-3, got 12 points from Tibor Pleiss.

Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv 90-83 Real Madrid

Menorah Mivtachim Arena was rocking on Thursday night as Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv bested Real Madrid 90-83. Maccabi dominated inside and set a new club record with 53 rebounds, while outrebounding the visitors by 20. The result lifted Maccabi to 4-2 and dropped Madrid to the same record. DeShaun Thomas paced the winners with 21 points and Michael Roll scored 16. Luka Doncic produced 19 points and 6 assists for Los Blancos, who wore blue uniforms on this night.

AX Armani Exchange Olimpia Milan 62-94 Zalgiris Kaunas

Zalgiris Kaunas registered its biggest EuroLeague road win this century by thrashing AC Armani Exchange Olimpia Milan 62-94 on Thursday night. Zalgiris used a 4-31 charge that bridged the first and second quarters to open a 20-point lead and then ran away some more and iced the game by finishing the third quarter with a 2-17 run. Paulius Jankunas led six double-digit Zalgiris scorers with 13 points, while Kevin Pangos posted 12 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists in victory.

FC Barcelona Lassa 85-89 Anadolu Efes Istanbul

With three players scoring more than 20 points, Anadolu Efes Istanbul pounced on FC Barcelona Lassa 85-89 at Palau Blaugrana for it first win of the season. Vladimir Stimac posted a new career high with 22 points plus 8 rebounds and Erick McCollum and Ricky Ledo scored 21 points apiece to lead the winners, who also outrebounded Barcelona 28-36. . It was Efes's first road win against Barcelona after five consecutive losses. Barcelona fell to 2-4. Kevin Seraphin led Barcelona with 19 points.

Khimki Moscow Region 91-90 Baskonia Vitoria Gasteiz

Khimki Moscow Region confirmed its great momentum in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague by rallying from a double-digit deficit to edge Baskonia Vitoria Gasteiz 91-90 at home on Friday. Khimki improved to 5-1 in the standings while Baskonia dropped to 1-5. Anthony Gill and Alexey Shved led the winners with 20 points apiece. James Anderson added 18 while Stefan Markovic had 15 for Khimki. Matt Janning led Baskonia with 19 points. It all came down to the final 16.5 seconds, which Shved and Gill combined for 6-of-6 free throws to make Khimki stay out of trouble until the final buzzer. Baskonia hit 16 three-point shots and dished 26 assists, but Khimki only had three turnovers in the second half, in what was a big key to its comeback.

Brose Bamberg 57-80 Fenerbahce Dogus Istanbul

The reigning Turkish Airlines EuroLeague champion Fenerbahce Dogus Istanbul picked up a 57-80 road win over Brose Bamberg on Friday night. Fenerbahce improved to 4-2 on the season with a fine defensive performance, while making its 7 of its first 9 three-point attempts, which helped open an early double-digit lead which Fenerbahce never relinquished before putting the game away in the fourth quarter with a 0-15 run. On a balanced offense, Jan Vesely paced Fenerbahce with 15 points, while Kostas Sloukas was all over the place with 11 points, 7 assists and 6 rebounds. Augustine Rubit scored 12 points for Bamberg, which got its three-game winning streak snapped, and now has a 3-3 record.

Olympiacos Piraeus 62-70 Panathinaikos Superfoods Athens

In a Greek derby full of intensity, Panathinaikos Superfoods Athens grabbed its first road win in the 2017-18 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague season by edging archrivals Olympiacos Piraeus 62-70 in the Peace and Friendship Stadium on Friday. Panathinaikos improved to 4-2 in the regular season standings while Olympiacos dropped to 4-2 after registering its first road loss. James Gist led the winners with 15 points. Lukas Lekavicius added 14 while K.C. Rivers had 12 for Panathinaikos. Janis Strelnieks led Olympiacos with 18 points. Panathinaikos led all the way in the second half and an outstanding Lekavicius allowed the guests to seal the outcome minutes before the final buzzer.

Unicaja Malaga 79-65 Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade

Unicaja Malaga won back-to-back games for the first time this season in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague by holding off Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade 79-65 as Nemanja Nedovic tallied 17 points and 4 assists. Unicaja improved to 3-3 while Zvezda dropped to 2-4. Sasu Salin nailed 5 three-pointers, 4 in the first quarter, Unicaja raced to a 20-4 lead. Zvezda was able to lower the difference to 9 points a couple times after halftime, but got no closer. Dragan Milosavljevic added 12 points. 4 rebounds and 3 assists for the winners, while James Augustine chipped in 10 points. Mathias Lessort had 10 points and 7 rebounds for Zvezda while Taylor Rochestie was held to 10 points with 6 assists.
