Playoffs, Game 1

All four home teams - CSKA Moscow, Maccabi Elite, Winterthur FC Barcelona and Panathinaikos - got closer to the 2006 Final Four, as all four teams survived Game 1 of the best-of-three Quarterfinal Playoff series and are win away from sealing their ticket to Prague. CSKA topped Efes Pilsen 66-57 in Moscow behind 19 points from J.R. Holden, who sealed the outcome with a triple in the next-to-last minute. Defending champion Maccabi took a key step forward with an 87-78 home win against Olympiacos. Nikola Vujcic led five double-figure scorers for Maccabi with 23 points. Winterthur FCB did not find much trouble to down archrivals Real Madrid 72-58. Shammond Williams led Barcelona with 23 points on 8-for-13 shooting. Last but not least, Panathinaikos defeated Tau Ceramica 84-72 with 18,000 fans behind it at OAKA Olympic arena in Athens. Mike Batiste led the winners with 15 points. Even when Tau outrebounded Panathinaikos by 24-40, Batiste and Dejan Tomasevic sealed the outcome for the Greens.
