The regular season reached the halfway point this week with only one clear-cut group leader and many teams mounting charges for spots in the Top 16. Group B leader Panathinaikos (7-0) stands above all others as the only unbeaten team after seven games and the only team to accomplish the feat in the last five seasons. Moreover, the Greens hold a three-game advantage over the second place teams, meaning that not only is an early bid to the Top 16 attainable, but clinching first place early is also not out of the question. The races are much closer in the other groups. Group A co-leaders Olympiacos and Tau Ceramica stand at 6-1 and hold a two-game lead over their closest competitors. There is much parity in the middle of that pack, with one win separating sixth place from third. In Group C, co-leaders CSKA and Winterthur FCB, also at at 5-1, boast a four-game lead over the sixth placed team, allowing the leaders to begin planning for the next stage. In no group is there more than a two-game gap between last place and fifth – the final spot that guarantees qualification for the Top 16 – so there is still plenty to play for as the second half of the regular season gets underway.
