When Maroussi got its first crack at the top division in the '70s, everyone was talking about the great Nikos Darivas-Dimitris Fosses point guard-and-center tandem. In the new era, Maroussi had current Houston Rockets point guard Vassilis Spanoulis. Jimmy Oliver, a well-known figure of European courts, also played there and was a big factor in the 2001 Saporta Cup victory.Home court:

Maroussi is owned by the Vovos family, whose son Aris, a club executive, is a famous rally driver in his spare time...Maroussi has reached the 2002 Greek Cup final, losing to Olympiacos, as well as the 2004 FIBA Champions Cup final, bowing to Unics Kazan...In the latter, Maroussi was coached by Panayotis Yannakis, who spent his last season on its bench (2005-06) handling both the club and the national team, the first coach to do so in Greek basketball history...The northern suburb of Maroussi is the birthplace of Spiros Louis, the famous 1896 Olympic Games Marathon race winner, and before the '90s the club played in a small arena in the town center that still bears his name.
