The coach of this team, which was winning tournaments all over Europe before European Cups were introduced, was Nikolaos Nissiotis, a candidate for induction in the Basketball Hall of Fame. A big figure for the club and the national team in the 1970s was the prolific scorer Vassilis Goumas

Fact file:
The neighborhood of Kipseli, base of the club, is one of the most densely populated areas in Europe...The club is dubbed "the Olympic Champions" because it cultivates a variety of Olympic sports and its athletes have brought Olympic medals to Greece ever since the first Olympics in 1896...The small Panellinios arena does not have seats behind the baskets...Behind one of them is a type of balcony where former players used to stand to watch games, protected by a net hanging from top to bottom, and still to on occasion.
