2007 Euroleague Final sets new records!
CSKA Moscow set a new record for most points scored by a losing team in a Euroleague Final with 91. That broke one of the oldest records in the books. Maccabi scored 84 points in the 90-84 loss to Milano in the first Final Four in 1988.
Pana and CSKA and combined for the second most points scored in a Euroleague Final game. The total from this game was 184 – second only to 192 for Maccabi Elite Tel Aviv and Skipper Bologna in 2004.
Panathinaikos set two Euroleague Final records. The new Euroleague champs went to the line 46 times and made 38 free throws. In the 2003 Final in Barcelona, the eventual champion made 34 from the line to set the previous record. Olympiacos in the 1997 and Kinder in 2002 went to the line 41 times apiece to hold the previous records for most free throw attempts.
Panathinaikos tied a record for most points scored in the second quarter with 28. The previous record was set by Tau Ceramica in Game 5 of the 2001 finals series against Kinder Bologna.
Ramunas Siskauskas tied the record for most free throws made in a Euroleague final by collecting 12 of his points from the charity stripe. He now shares the mark with Manu Ginobili, who made 12 free throws in the last final that Panathinaikos won at the 2002 Final Four in Bologna.
Siskauskas set a record by going to the line 17 times. The old record for most free throws attempted was previously shared by Ginobili and Arvydas Macijauskas, who each shot 13 free throws – Ginobili in the 2002 final and Macijauskas in the 2005 final.
Theodoros Papaloukas tied the record for most two-point field goals made in a Euroleague final by making 9 shots from that range against CSKA. The Euroleague MVP joins great names as Zoran Savic, Dino Radja, Dejan Bodiroga, Nate Huffman, Victor Alexander and Rashard Griffith with that mark.
Matjaz Smodis of CSKA temporarily held the record for most free throws made in a Euroleague final game without a miss. Smodis was 11-for-11 before missing his 12th attempt late in the game. Elmer Bennett holds the mark with a 10-for-10 effort in 2001.
