In a round of games that featured history being made throughout, one man’s performance stood above the rest. Justin Dentmon dominated for Zalgiris Kaunas in leading his team to a sweet 87-80 victory over Real Madrid in the Lithuanian champs’ final Euroleague game of the season. Dentmon peppered the nets for 36 points on 7-of-11 three-point shooting en route to a performance index rating of 40, which led all players in Top 16 Round 14 and made him the bwin MVP for the third time this season. During the game, Dentmon set the competition record for most three-pointers in a season with 74. He also set a new team mark for points in a game. His all-around performance also included 4-of-5 two-point shooting, 7 free throws made without a miss, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. Dentmon needed a huge effort to nudge Laboral Kutxa Vitoria’s Andres Nocioni from the top of the week’s best performances. Nocioni’s 37 points were the most scored by any player this season as Vitoria downed FC Barcelona 86-97. It was also the most ever scored by a visiting player at Barca’s Palau Blaugrana. ‘El Chapo’ also recorded 3 rebounds, 2 steals and 3 blocks in recording an index rating of 35. Another player who made history checked in at No. 3 on the list of the week’s best performances. Juan Carlos Navarro of Barcelona became the first player to 500 three-pointers in competition history. He finished with a 28 index after amassing 25 points and 5 assists. Madrid’s Sergio Llull tallied an index of 25 with 23 points, 2 assists and 2 steals. Rounding out the list of Top 16 Round 14’s best were Oguz Savas of Fenerbahce Ulker and Dusko Savanovic of Anadolu Efes, each with index ratings of 24. Savas had 18 points and 7 rebounds, while Savanovic posted 21 points and 4 assists as Fener won the Istanbul derby between their teams 84-65. MVP Video
Individual leaders: Andres Nocioni of Laboral Kutxa Vitoria, 37 points
Nocioni edged Dentmon not only for top of the weekly scoring table, but for the most points scored in the Euroleague all season. Nocioni improved to 10th place in scoring for the season at 13.6 points per game. Dentmon is second at 16.8 points. The scoring leader for the season remains Keith Langford of EA7 Emporio Armani Milan with 17.6 per game. Langford was also the Top 16 scoring champ at 18.8 per game. Joffrey Lauvergne of Partizan NIS Belgrade grabbed 11 rebounds, which led all players in Top 16 Round 14 and finished a spectacular individual campaign in which he led the Euroleague with 8.6 boards per game. Lauvergne also scored 11 points to become the only player in Top 16 Round 14 to register a double-double. Five players tied for the most assists of the round with 7: Carlos Arroyo of Galatasaray Liv Hospital, Jayson Granger of Unicaja, Thomas Heurtel of Vitoria, Tyrese Rice of Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv and Ibrahim Ugurlu of Fenerbahce Ulker. Arroyo was the Top 16’s leader in assists with 6.8 per game; Dimitris Diamantidis of Panathinaikos leads the full-season chart with 6.5 per game. Kostas Vasileiadis of Efes recorded 4 steals, which was the most of the week. Teammate Jamon Gordon finished as the season’s leader in steals with 2 per game. No players rejected more shots in Top 16 Round 14 than Nocioni and Milan’s Gani Lawal, each with 3. Olympiacos big man Bryant Dunston leads the competiton with 1.46 blocks per game.
