Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv
EA7 Emporio Armani Milan and Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv meet again. The last time that happened at the higher stages of the Euroleague season, they faced each other in the 1987 and 1988 finals, both of which Milan won. Now, they will battle for a Final Four spot. Maccabi has been extremely dangerous on the road this season, winning seven games outside Nokia Arena. It also features 10 players with previous playoffs experience, four of whom have been to the Final Four and one champion, David Blu. Maccabi has made it to the playoffs eight of the last nine seasons. Milan arrives to the playoffs for the first time since the format came back in 2004-05. Only three of its players, including former Maccabi guard Keith Langford, have been this far in the competition until now. Milan, however, has an 11-1 home record this season, losing only against Real Madrid in December. Head coaches Luca Banchi and David Blatt have similar playing styles, with great one-on-one backcourt players, stretch power forwards and physical presences in the paint. The matchup between former All-Euroleague center Sofoklis Schortsanitis of Maccabi and fast-rising Alex Tyus with newcomers Samardo Samuels and Gani Lawal could be the key to this series.
