David Blatt, to Efes Efes Pilsen has made David Blatt, one of the most sought-after head coaches in the world, its first new bench boss in six years, the club announced on Friday. Blatt goes to Istanbul after leading Benetton Treviso to the brink of the Euroleague's quarterfinal playoffs two seasons in a row. Blatt had made the Final Four in his very first season as a head coach, 2001-02, for Maccabi Tel Aviv, with whom he also captured two Israeli League titles. Blatt later won a Euroleague trophy as assistant coach of Maccabi in 2004. Blatt then coached Dynamo St. Petersburg to the 2005 FIBA Europe League crown before moving to Treviso. In his first season with Benetton, Blatt took the Italian League title. He has also won national cups in both Israel and Italy. Blatt has been the Israeli national team coach and currently holds the same position in Russia. He replaces Oktay Mahmuti, who had been on the Efes bench since 2001 as head coach and as an assistant since 1992.
