Galatasaray Liv Hospital Istanbul ensured one of the Turkish Airlines top young rebounders will continue to wear its colors for the foreseeable future by signing Furkan Aldemir to a two-plus-one-year extension. Aldemir (2.07 meters, 22 years old) has made a name for himself in the paint across Europe last season as a rebounding and shot-blocking force. With the injury bug really hitting Galatasaray hard last season, Aldemir stepped up, helping the club reach the playoffs for the first time this century. The young big man led the Top 16 with 14.51 rebounds prorated over 40 minutes, was third in blocks during that stage with 3.08 per 40 minutes, and was one of the league’s best offensive rebounders, averaging 2.36 per game last season. Aldemir finished the campaign, his second in the Euroleague and third with the club, with 5.4 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks per game. He had started his professional career as a teenager with Pinar Karsiyaka, where he played for four seasons before joining Galatasaray in 2011.
