Unicaja Malaga will remain the home of the Euroleague’s career shot-blocking king and after Fran Vazquez agreed to a new deal with the club. Vazquez (2.09 meters, 31 years old) has blocked 223 shots in his Euroleague career, which is a whopping 83 more than the next player on the list. His average of 2.65 blocks per 40 minutes is second all-time and best among players with at least 100 games played. Vazquez has played much of his career in Malaga, having joined the club as an 18-year-old in 2001. He also spent time on the Malaga B team, on loan at Gran Canaria and Bilbao Basket plus one season at Akasvayu Girona in addition to five full seasons with Unicaja and six with FC Barcelona. He averaged 6.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.1 blocks over 22 Turkish Airlines Euroleague appearances last season as a part-time starter. He was third in the league in rejections. In the Spanish League, Vazquez was worth 7.5 points and 4.8 rebounds in the regular season before upping his numbers to 12.1 points and 6.3 boards in the playoffs. It was his second season back with Unicaja after playing for Barcelona, where he won the 2010 Euroleague title, reached three Euroleague Final Fours and won three Spanish League championships and three Copa del Rey crowns. Vazquez also won the 2005 Copa del Rey with Unicaja.
