Preparations for a return to the Euroleague are moving along in Siena, where Italian League champions Montepaschi have signed a new big man and have made contract extensions with a guard and a forward. The newcomer, multi-faceted center Ksistof Lavrinovic (210, 28), signed for three seasons, while guard Terrell McIntyre and defensive forward Shaun Stonerook (201, 30) were given two-year extensions. Lavrinovic (210, 28) made up half of the Lithuanian brother team that helped lift Unics Kazan to the semifinals of the ULEB Cup and finals of the Russian League last season. Montepaschi had seen Lavrinovic close up when Unics swept their ULEB Cup quarterfinal series. He averaged 12.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in just 19 minutes per game in that series. Overall, he put up 11.6 points and 7 rebounds per game and had the second-most blocks, fourth-most rebounds the sixth-best performance ranking in the ULEB Cup last season. McIntyre and Stonerook had big roles in lifting Montepaschi to the Italian League title. Stonerook averaged 5.8 rebounds and 1.9 steals as a nearly full-time starter for Montepaschi in ULEB Cup play last season. McIntyre averaged 11.2 points, 2.8 assists and 1.8 steals while making an impressive 25 of 26 free throws on the season.
