Zalgiris Kaunas announces Songaila
Darius Songaila - Lietuvos Rytas - EB13

Lithuanian champ Zalgiris Kaunas announced on Tuesday the addition of forward Darius Songaila to a one-year deal. Songaila (2.06 meters, 36 years old) arrives from archrival Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius, where he managed to appear in 10 Turkish Airlines Euroleague regular season games averaging 8.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists. After that, the team went on to play the Eurocup where Songaila averaged 11.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.0 steals in 8 games. Songaila played college ball in Wake Forest from 1998 to 2002 and then played with CSKA Moscow in the 2002-03 Euroleague before moving to the NBA, where he played with several teams until 2011. After that, he returned to Europe to join Galatasaray Istanbul and then moved to Valladolid of Spain. In the 2012-13 season he played with Donetsk in Ukraine before returning to his native Lithuania last season.

“I am very happy that I will play in Kaunas next season. I wanted to stay in Lithuania and my dream to play here became a reality. I am proud to join the legendary Zalgiris club" Songaila said.

“We are happy to sign a player who can play in the level in which Zalgiris plays. Darius can fill two positions if needed and his experience will be very helpful for our younger players. At the same time I want to thank Tadas Klimavicius, who is leaving the team after a long time here in Zalgiris. He helped us to achieve many great victories and we wish him all the best in the future" Zalgiris head coach Gintaras Krapikas said.
