Crvena Zvezda Telekom Belgrade improved its frontcourt by signing big man Maik Zirbes to a two-year deal on Tuesday. Zirbes (2.08 meters, 24 years old) arrives from Brose Baskets Bamberg, for whom he played in each of the last two seasons. He averaged 8.1 points and 4.8 rebounds in 10 Turkish Airlines Euroleague games last season. A fierce offensive rebounder, he ranked second in the Euroleague regular season with 3.2 per game. When Bamberg was eliminated and joined the 2013-14 Eurocup, Zirbes went on to average 5.7 points and 4.5 rebounds in 6 games. Zirbes has also played for TBB Trier of Germany and debuted in the German League as a teenager in the 2007-08 season. He has represented Germany at both the junior and senior levels, including participating at EuroBasket 2013. With two seasons of Euroleague experience on his back, Zirbes is ready to play a key role for Zvezda next season.
