Reds add Vasiliadis, Roberts, Mavrokefalidis
Loukas Mavrokefalides - Lottomatica Roma Olympiacos continues to be one of the most active teams in the off-season market after making three marquee signings on Thursday. The Reds inked respective multi-year deals with center Loukas Mavrokefalidis, power forward Lawrence Roberts and small forward Kostas Vasiliadis. Mavrokefalidis (210, 22) and Vasiliadis (200, 23) signed three-year contracts, while Roberts (206, 24) joins the Reds for two seasons. Mavrokefalidis arrives from Pamesa Valencia, where he averaged 3.2 points and 1.4 rebounds in 14 Spanish League games last season. He started the season with Lottomatica Roma, averaging 7.2 points and 5 rebounds in 14 Euroleague games. Mavrokefalidis arrived in Roma from PAOK, where he had a break-out season in 2005-06, averaging 16.5 points and 8.2 rebounds in 26 Greek League games. Vasiliadis made his one year outside Greece so far a great one, winning the 2006 Spanish League title shortly after joining Unicaja and then reaching the Final Four last season. Vasiliadis averaged 6.3 points and 2.3 rebounds in 21 Euroleague games for Unicaja last season. Now he will be reunited with former PAOK teammates Mavrokefalidis, Panagiotis Vassilopoulos and Giorgos Apostolidis. Vasiliadis had played six seasons for PAOK of Thessaloniki, Greece prior to leaving for Malaga. Roberts arrives from the Memphis Grizzlies, where he averaged 5.2 points and 4.8 rebounds in 54 NBA games last season. Roberts has also played for the Arkansas RimRockers in the NBDL since finishing a successful college career at Mississippi State University, where he posted 16.9 points and 11 rebounds in his senior season.
