ULEB Cup and Spanish League champion Real Madrid made its first major move ahead of its Euroleague return on Thursday by inking center Lazaros Papadopoulos to a three-year deal. Papadopoulos (210, 27) arrives from Dynamo Moscow, where he averaged 14.8 points and 7.2 rebounds in 17 Euroleague games last season. He was chosen as the Euroleague MVP in February, led Dynamo as far as the Quarterfinal Playoffs in its Euroleague debut and was named to the All-Euroleague second team. In 2005-06, Papadopoulos had 12 points and 12 rebounds in the ULEB Cup final, helping Dynamo to win its first European title in the title game against Aris. He has also played for Iraklis and Panathinaikos in Greece and is the starting center for the Greek national team. He helped Panathinaikos win the 2002 Euroleague title, playing a key role off the bench in the title game against Kinder Bologna. Papadopoulos has also won the gold medal at EuroBasket 2005 and the silver medal at the 2006 World Championships with his national team.
