Center German Gabriel will play Euroleague basketball with his boyhood club this season after signing a two-year contract to return to Unicaja. Gabriel (207, 26) arrives from Akasvayu Girona, where he has spent the past two seasons. Last year he averaged 6.8 points and 2.6 rebounds in 16 minutes per game for Akasvayu. He grew up with Unicaja, making his debut in 1998. Since leaving the club in 2001, Gabriel has also played for Ourense, Estudiantes and Bilbao.
"I am very pleased to return to the place where I developed as a player and which I can call my club," Gabriel said in a statement. "I hope that this time around I will remain for many years. I believe that we are going to have a competitive team. One of the things that they have changed in this club from the last time I was here is that now Unicaja is a more attractive team and that all the good players want to come to play in Malaga, so there will be no problem to form a great team and to compete in all competitions."
