With the target of a bright comeback in the Euroleague, Virtus Bologna added a couple of big scorers when the club owner, Claudio Sabatini, officially announced the deals with guard Dewarick Spencer and forward Delonte Holland. Spencer (193, 25) signed a two-year agreement with the “Black V” after leading the French team of Roanne to the national title and an Euroleague spot with an average of 20.6 points in 34 Pro A games. Considered one of the rising offensive players in Europe, Spencer had big numbers for Arkansas State in the NCAA, scoring 18.6 points on 39% three-point shooting in his senior year. Then in Europe, he played two years in Roanne, ending his experience with a double title in Semaine des As and the French League. Holland (201, 25), who signed for three years with escape options at the end of each season, came from Whirlpool Varese, the team he led in scoring with 17.5 points last season. Previously, he averaged 18.6 points per game for Teramo, its first Italian team. Holland also was a hot-gun in college times as he scored 16.5 points for De Paul University in his senior year. In Serbia, playing for Atlas Banka Novi Beograd, Holland had the first experience in Europe, posting a 20.7 points-per-game campaign in 2004-05.
