A walking symbol of basketball success will keep going for more titles with the announcement that Euroleague champion Panathinaikos has re-signed forward Fragiskos Alvertis for an incredible 18th consecutive season. With victory at the 2007 Final Four in Athens, his hometown, Alvertis (206, 32) lifted his fourth Euroleague trophy since 1996 with Panathinaikos, moving him into a tie for the third-most continental titles every by any player ever. No player, however, has won more titles than Alvertis in the Final Four era that began in 1988. That is not to mention 16 other trophies - including nine Greek League titles - that he has won with the club. Although his minutes have diminished in recent years, Alvertis proves time and again that he can affect games, as when he came off the bench for 5 quick points against Tau Ceramica in last season's semifinal. Last season, he put up 3.3 points over 9 minutes in 11 games for the Greens. His role as a motivational force might be even bigger for Panathinaikos, however, as Alvertis sets the tone of competitiveness for the Greens whether he is on the court or not.
