Regular Season, Week 1 review
2007-08 season off to a roaring start

The first week of the 2007-08 Euroleague season had something for everybody and proved again that anything can happen - and often does - in the continent's top competition. If the opening game proved that one of the favorites was more than ready to go, the rest of the week showed that others will be trying to knock off the big names. CSKA Moscow's 69-88 road win at Prokom Trefl Sopot in Poland laid down a gauntlet, but by the time 12 more teams got going on Wednesday, it was clear that winning wouldn't be so easy. Six home teams survived that night, but five did so by fewer than eight points. One of the biggest names fell, too, as Partizan Igokea knocked off AXA FC Barcelona 81-78 in Belgrade, Serbia. That night also revealed a new would-be contender in Montepaschi, an 80-52 blowout winner over Union Olimpija at home in Siena, Italy. Home teams didn't have it so good by Thursday, however. Real Madrid set the pace by downing Fenerbahce Ulker 72-80 in Istanbul, Turkey, while Lietuvos Rytas followed with a 76-83 decision at Armani Jeans Milano. The third road win of that night finished the first week in style, too. Playing in its first Euroleague-level competition in almost 50 years, French champion Chorale Roanne sewed up a 61-64 road win at Brose Baskets Bamberg of Germany as Brion Rush drained his fifth three-pointer of the night with time running out. Touché to the newcomers for punctuating a great first week the right way!
