Week 5 MVP: Arvydas Macijauskas of Olympiacos
Following the most difficult two seasons of his career, one of the best shooters in the world continues to show that he is back and great as ever. Arvydas Macijauskas of Olympiacos became the Week 5 MVP with a performance index rating of 41 while leading the Reds to a 109-65 home win against Prokom Trefl Sopot. The victory was the second-biggest all decade by Olympiacos and featured the most points scored by the Reds since 1996, their only continental title season. Macijauskas poured in 27 points and missed only 3 shots all night: he made 6 of 7 two-pointers, 2 of 4 triples and 9 of 9 free throws. He added 2 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals, a block and 8 fouls drawn for a 41 index. Following him on the list of the week's top performances was Willie Solomon of Fenerbahce Ulker, whose 34 index rating led his team to a 79-77 home win against Brose Baskets. Solomon not only had 21 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists and 8 fouls drawn, but also hit the game-winning free throws with just 10 seconds to go. Jaka Lakovic of AXA FC Barcelona (32 index) flirted with a triple-double while pacing his team past archrivals Real Madrid 73-62 with 14 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists and 8 fouls drawn. Nikola Pekovic of Partizan Igokea (30), Ksystof Lavrinovic of Montepaschi Siena (28) and Andrija Zizic of Panathinaikos (28) completed the top individual performances of the week.
Individual highs: Travis Watson of AJ Milano, 16 rebounds
Macijauskas was not only the Week 4 MVP, but his 27 points against Prokom made im the week's top scorer. He now ranks second in overall scoring (21.8 ppg.) behind leader Marc Salyers of Chorale Roanne (22.4 ppg.). Travis Watson of Armani Jeans Milano had the most rebounds all week, 16, during a road win at Aris TT Bank and jumped to the top of that category for the season to date (10.4 rpg.), just ahead of Fenerbahce's Mirsad Turkcan. Solomon and Sani Becirovic of Panathinaikos each dished 8 assists, the most this week. Dejuan Collins of Zalgiris is the overall assists leader (5.4 apg.), with Solomon second (4.8 apg.). Will Bynum of Maccabi Elite Tel Aviv and Yannick Bokolo of Le Mans each collected a week-high of 5 steals. Terrell McIntyre of Montepaschi Siena is the steals leader (2.8 spg.), while Bynum is fourth (2.25 spg.). Ioannis Bourousis of Olympiacos and Ben Eze of Montepaschi had 3 blocks apiece. Lavrinovic and Pape Badiane of Chorale Roanne lead the global blocks chart (1.8 bpg.). Four players - Lakovic, Marijonas Petravicius of Lietuvos Rytas, Mirsad Turkcan of Fenerbahce Ulker and Novica Velickovic of Partizan Igokea - registered respective double-doubles this week.
