Group B co-leader Unicaja has signed guard Melvin Sanders for the remainder of the season, the club announced Tuesday. Sanders (26, 196) arrives from Panellinios in Greece, which released him last week. He saw limited action at Panellinios after suffering a broken collarbone in a car accident during the preseason. Unicaja was looking to beef up its backcourt after losing Alfonso Sanchez to injury early in the season. This will be Sanders's second stint in the Euroleague. He joined Pau-Orthez in France midway through last season and averaged 10.5 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.2 steals in 10 Euroleague games. He also helped Pau finish the season strong by winning the French Cup. Sanders spent time with the San Antonio Spurs of the NBA before that, averaging 2.6 points and 1.4 rebounds in 7.1 minutes over 16 games. Sanders has also had stints with Varese in Italy and Telindus Ostende in Belgium since finishing his college career at Oklahoma State University, where he averaged 12.9 points, 4.8 boards and 1.6 assists in his senior season.
