The first week of Euroleague games in 2008 brought the first teams to qualify for the Top 16 with four games to go in the regular season, as well as an impressing milestone from a well-rounded rebounding machine. CSKA Moscow, AXA FC Barcelona, Unicaja, Lietuvos Rytas and Panathinaikos already made it to the next round in all three groups. CSKA overcame a slow start to down Union Olimpija 74-57 behind 25 points and 8 rebounds from David Andersen. Just as usual, CSKA improved its defense after the break and managed to seal the outcome long before the final buzzer to get its 22nd consecutive Euroleague home win at the Universal Sports Hall, also taking revenge from its buzzer-beating road loss against Olimpija earlier this season. Meanwhile, Panathinaikos held off a wild Partizan Igokea rally to register a 67-66 home win and advance to the Top 16. Sarunas Jasikevicius paced the winners with 17 points and despite being outrebounded by 23-46, the Greens managed to get an important win.
