Nike IJCT L'Hospitalet report: Pamesa Valencia 87-81 CSKA Moscow
Pamesa Valencia became the first team to register a win at the Euroleague Basketball Nike International Junior Classification Tournament L’Hospitalet by edging CSKA Moscow 87-81 in the opening game on Thursday. Pamesa leads Group D with a 1-0 record and will advance to the semifinals if it beats Real Madrid later on today. Meanwhile, CSKA now needs Madrid to beat Pamesa to set a do-or-die showdown against Real tomorrow. Marcos Molina led the winners with 20 points. Bozhidar Avramov added 13 while Juan Luis Navarro had 11 for Pamesa. Alexander Morozov had 18 points and 12 rebounds for CSKA. Dimitriy Korshakov and Ivan Strebkov each added 15 while Sergey Palkin got 13 for the Russian powerhouse, that led 21-23 after 10 minutes on a buzzer-beating basket by Nikita Barinov. Pamesa managed to stop Morozov while Avramov and Molina led their team to a 45-41 halftime margin. Pamesa simply rolled in the third quarter, as Abramov and an unstoppable Molina fueled a 39-8 run that broke the game open. CSKA rallied once the outcome was clear, but 8 consecutive points by Korshakov allowed his team to cut its deficit to 87-81 and keep slim options to reach the semifinals, depending on other results.
