|
FMP Zeleznik was the last team to reach the Euroleague Basketball Nike International Junior Classification Tournament L’Hospitalet semifinals by simply overwhelming Cajasol 94-56 in the last Group A game on Friday. FMP won Group A and will face Real Madrid in the first semifinal tomorrow at 10:00 CET. Meanwhile, Cajasol was second in this group and can still finish fifth in the competition. Svetozar Stamenkovic paced the winners with 17 points. Branislav Djeric, Andreja Milutinovic and Bojan Subotic each added 14 while Milan Milovanovic had 10 for FMP. Julio Sosa had 17 points for Cajasol while Fran Cardenas added 10. FMP opened the game with a 7-0 run that Aleksandar Ponjavic capped with a triple, but Cardenas and Alvaro Saborido got Cajasol within 9-7. Cajasol started to miss free throws, so its aggressitivity in offense did not pay off. Meanwhile, Stamenkovic started to dominate inside while free throws by Bojan Subotic gave FMP a 19-10 margin. Arturo Fernandez stroke from downtown, but Subotic and Milutinovic allowed FMP to get a 25-14 edge after 10 minutes. A tired Cajasol struggled to score against FMP's very effective zone defense. Meanwhile, Milovanovic, Djekic and Stamenkovic fueled an 11-0 run that broke the game open, 43-21. A buzzer-beating triple by Stamenkovic gave FMP its biggest lead that far, 48-23, at halftime. Cajasol tried to get back in the game, as Fernandez and Sosa hit respective bombs from downtown to get their team within 56-36. FMP had lost control at both ends now while a three-point play by Cardenas brought Cajasol even closer, 60-44. Ponjavic fueled a 12-4 run that broke the game for good, 72-44, after 30 minutes. Everything was said and done up to this points, as FMP sat out its main players for the big game against Madrid tomorrow. Even with that, a corner triple by Ponjavic made it a 37-point game, 83-46, enough to cruise to yet another impressing win.
