FMP is the Euroleague Basketball Nike International Junior Classification Tournament L’Hospitalet tournament champion! FMP won its second consecutive L'Hospitalet tournament title by edging AXA FC Barcelona 79-78 in a thrilling final on Saturday. Bojan Subotic became the game hero with the game-winning layup with 2.8 seconds to go. He also led the winners with 37 points on 11-for-18 two-point shooting and 12 rebounds. Svetozar Stamenkovic added 12 while Andreja Milutinovic had 11 for FMP. Michel Diouff had 19 points and 11 rebounds for Barcelona. Konstantine Tamaradze added 17 points, Nihad Djedovic and Papa Abdoulaye each had 12 and Daniel Perez 10 for Barcelona, which stormed back after trailing 55-36 midway through the third quarter. Abdoulaye, Tamaradze and Perez brought Barcelona back in the game and a free throw by Alejandro Hernandez gave his team a 77-78 edge with 3.5 seconds remaining. Subotic picked up a long pass and scored at the other end, while Djedovic missed a potential tournament-winning shot at the buzzer. Nikola Mirotic of Real Madrid was chosen as the tournament MVP, Dragan Dragosavac won the Best Coach award while Jordi Salto was awarded the Best Local Player award. Perez won the three-point shootout on a tiebreaker after tying with teammate Djedovic at 15-15 in the final round.
FMP managed to stop Djedovic in the early going, so Barcelona opted to run its offense through big men Diouff and Abdoulaye. A dominant Diouff had 10 unanswered points during a 0-13 run that Djedovic capped with a triple, causing FMP to call timeout at 5-15. Barcelona kept dominating the game with its man-to-man defense, while consecutive layups by Djedovic and a running jumper by Abdoulaye allowed their team to keep a 14-23 lead after 10 minutes. FMP switched to 2-3 zone defense that Djedovic punished with a corner triple. Even with that, Subotic hit from downtown and scored in the low post to keep his team within 21-28. Musli shined with a power layup and a mid-range jumper in a game-breaking 22-2 run in which Subotic had 8 points as FMP took a double-digit margin at 43-32. Barcelona struggled to score against FMP's zone defense until Diouff stepped up with a layup that got his team within 43-34 at halftime. Subotic followed free throws with a fast break layup and soon took over with an alley-oop basket, good for a 15-point FMP margin at 49-34. Abdoulaye tried to change things with a layup, but a red hot Subotic bettered that with a three-point play and soon buried one from downtown to single-handedly break the game open, 55-36, after 24 minutes. FMP kept dominating the boards and even when Djedovic and Diouff tried to ignite a comeback, Stamenkovic and Subotic allowed FMP to keep a safe margin, 64-49, after 30 minutes. Abdoulaye changed the game momentum with a layup and a huge block, igniting a 0-11 run that he capped with a jumper to bring Barcelona back in the game. Then back-to-back triples by a red-hot Tamaradze tied the game at 66-66. Perez completed his team's comeback, 66-68, with a layup. Stamenkovic and Subotic kept FMP in the game, but a three-point play by Diouff turned the game into a thriller, 74-75, with two minutes remaining. Subotic and Milutinovic combined to make 3-of-4 free throws, but Perez tied the game, 77-77, with a driving layup. Milutinovic missed a shot and Hernandez drew a foul and made a free throw with 3.5 seconds to go. Subotic picked up a long pass and scored around the basket for a 79-78 Zeleznik lead with 2.8 seconds to go. Barcelona called timeout but Djedovic missed a one-handed jumper in the game's final possession.
