Week 1 MVP: Carlos Cabezas, Unicaja
Carlos Cabezas, Unicaja - Week 1 MVP Unicaja guard Carlos Cabezas will want to remember everything but the final score of his team's Group B season-opener on Thursday against Maccabi in Tel Aviv. Cabezas scored a career-high 32 points and dished 6 assists to earn MVP honors for Week 1 despite the fact that Unicaja lost 106-101 in overtime. The world champion point guard also forced overtime with a runner that tied the game with 6.1 seconds left. Cabezas shot an impressive 7-for-11 on two-pointers, went 4-for-6 from beyond the arc and made all 6 of his free throw attempts. He also had 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 7 fouls drawn for an index ranking of 41, the highest of the week. "I am happy for being the MVP of the first week, however I would have like much better having won the game," Cabezas said. "In many aspects of play and in the index rating I have had the highest points, and that makes me happy, above all because it came against a great team like Maccabi."



Tomas Masiulis Prokom Trefl SopotMike Batiste of Panathinaikos and Alex Acker of Olympiacos posted the next best index ratings, with 34 each. Batiste had 25 points and 7 rebounds as the Greens topped DKV Joventut 79-82, while Acker scored 25 and grabbed 13 boards in the Reds' 97-78 home win over Tau Ceramica. Spencer Nelson shot 6-for-7 from downtown on his way to 26 points and an index of 33, while Trajan Landon of CSKA and Kenny Gregory of Le Mans amassed index ratings of 29 each. Langdon scored 22 as CSKA beat Napoli 64-74 and Gregory scored 20 and grabbed 8 boards as LeMans stopped Climamio 82-71. Cabezas was the top scorer in Week 1, while Mirsad Turkcan of Fenerbahce Ulker and Tomas Masiulis of Prokom were the best rebounders with 14 apiece. Nikos Zisis of Benetton was the top assist man with 8 and David Hawkins of Lottomatica Roma had 6 steals, while Florent Pietrus of Unicaja and Kaya Peker of Tau Ceramica blocked 4 shots each.
