Week 14 MVP: Jordi Trias, AXA FC Barcelona
One interesting aspect of the final games of the 2007-08 Euroleague regular season turned out to be that scorers were not the biggest individual protagonists. A monster rebounding night was required to be among the highest-ranked performers in Week 14, and the player with the most became the last weekly MVP of regular season. Jordi Trias of AXA FC Barcelona amassing a performance index rating of 36 in his team's 65-69 road win against Brose Baskets. Trias is perhaps the first weekly MVP ever to score in single digits. He had 9 points on 4-for-6 two-point shooting, but blew away some tough competition on the boards by pulling an amazing 20 rebounds, tying the sixth-most collected in any Euroleague game this decade. His 8 offensive rebounds matched the third-highest single game total. Trias also had 6 assists, a steal, 2 blocks and 4 fouls drawn for a 36 index. Travis Watson of AJ Milano and Marcus Fizer of Maccabi Elite each posted a 33 index rating, also helped largely by rebounds. Watson had 18 points on 7-for-12 two-point shooting, made his only three-point try, pulled 16 rebounds and made 7 steals in a losing effort against Le Mans in Milano's final Euroleague game this season. Meanwhile, Fizer had 28 points, making 9 of 14 two-pointers and 10 of 12 free throws, while adding 11 rebounds and 7 fouls drawn to help Maccabi beat Aris TT Bank 94-101 in overtime. Willie Solomon of Fenerbahce Ulker and Pape Badiane of Chorale Roanne, each with a 31 index, completed the top individual performances this week.
Individual highs: Marc Salyers of Chorale Roanne, regular season top scorer
Fizer led all scorers in Week 14 with 28 points in his team's road win against Aris. Marc Salyers of Chorale Roanne finished as the regular season's top scorer (21.8 ppg.) and becomes the top candidate to win the Alphonso Ford Top Scoring trophy, as his 14 games make him eligible for the award. Salyers was finished first in average regular season index rating with 22.5 per game. Trias was Week 14's top rebounder thanks to his 20 boards against Brose Baskets. Watson, however, finished as the regular season's top rebounder with 9.7 per game. Milt Palacio of Partizan dished 9 assists in his team's road win against Fenerbahce Ulker to lead the Week 14 standings. De Juan Collins of Zalgiris Kaunas (4.9 apg.) finished atop the overall assists standings for the regular season. Watson's 7 steals, more than anyone this week, did not prevent Terrell McIntyre of Montepaschi Siena from topping all stealers in the first phase with 2.57 per game. Tim Ohlbrecht of Brose Baskets had 4 blocks against Barcelona. Tomas Van den Spiegel finished first in that category with 1.7 per game that he blocked for Prokom Trefl Sopot, although now he will play for CSKA Moscow in the Top 16. Only five players - Fizer, Watson, Badiane, Nikola Pekovic of Partizan Igokea and Jeremiah Massey of Aris TT Bank - registered respective double-doubles in Week 14.
